Pricing the clear paint protection products for my 2012. I drive in Oregon which uses gravel for snow roads vs. salt so it is a must. Toyota dealer says their product is better than 3M Venture Shield. Their price is about 15% more. That also gets me Toyota/Dealer warranty vs. a detailing shop's. They are doing the whole nose, half the hood, the side mirrors and part of the front fender (already have door edge guards and door handles). No recent threads on Toyota's product. Anyone have any experience with it or know what they use?
And Y product will say they are better than X...ergo...does anyone have any recent experience with Toyota's product?
If they are using the Toyota kit, I don't think it will wrap around the edges. I got the hood option as a port installed item. I haven't looked at an aftermarket clear bra installation THAT closely, but I feel the Toyota product is a little more "orange peely" than what I've seen on other cars. And again, the edges. For the price Toyota charges, I would've liked the edges done (wrapped around). But like you said, there is the warranty and can be taken care of by any dealer, I believe. And the Toyota film has little tiny Toyota logos on it at the corner, kind of cool. But with that said, I probably would've gotten it done elsewhere. Just find a well established shop with good reviews that uses a national warrantied product.
Entire nose, half the hood, edge of front fenders is what they quoted me. That seemed to match up to the 3M shops. I was curious if anyone knew what product Toyota was using or maybe it is just dealer specific.
Toyota dealer here is using Scotchguard film. Edit : but the price sheet says they use 3M paint protection film. Ok, reading the fine print on brochure I notice Scotchguard is 3M.
The reason that the Toyota parts were experiencing failure is due to installer error. We install about 200 a month on various makes and models and rarely see anything come back due to lifting and yellowing. I'm wrapping the entire front end on my brand new 2012 Prius tomorrow. I'll post pictures once it's done.
Should there ever be any lifting on edges or bubbles after a fresh install? I was told that would settle out like a overlay on a cell phone does in a few days. Is that true or BS? I too did the factory Toyota hood paint shield which is glass smooth and straight. The aftermarket install they did on my door cups & mirrors has some lifting on edges and a couple bubbles that the dealer swore would settle out. I would be concerned of dirt getting under those edge lifts. Should I have it replaced? They said it is 3M film and has a lifetime warranty. Mike
What is everyone paying for the complete clear wrap? I am interested in getting it done but was wondering what it's going to cost, as with anything I'm sure it's going to vary quite a bit from place to place
Yesterday at the dealer I was told $450 to do all the painted surfaces on the front bumper with the 3M film. Mike
Ouch, hope you can find a better deal. I got a little wide eyed when they told me $450. The car was kinda spendy then to start adding on stuff. My wife wasn't taking too kind to that. Monday I will find out what kind of work they do for $450. I hope they do a nice job. Mike
Toyota was $750. Detailing shop was offering specials for $650. Both covered full front bumper, half the hood, front edge of front fender, door edges, door handles. I went with Toyota for the backup. Pretty much paid for itself already, ride home and pickup, needed extra time so they gave me loaner.
