Weird issue this morning.... Got in the car, Pressed start button, a few seconds later ICE started up....all normal... I had to get out of the car since I forgot something in the house....When I got back in the car, the MID said "Turn Car Off" and a warning light was on....The car sounded fine....engine was running...so I turned it off...turned it back on....no issue... Any idea what happened? -M
Don't know....When I got back in and closed the door and the message would not go away...I guess I could have driven off, but was unsure....You may be right...it might have had something to do with the Keyfob leaving the vicinity of the car...but I would assume once the fob is back in the car the error would go away.... -M
It is in fact Prius telling you that you have left the vicinity of the car and "helping you" to remember to turn it off and not drain the battery. Mine does this if I park my car, leave it running and walk 30 feet to a mailbox. My Prius also beeps to let me know I need to read the dashboard message. The message does eventually reset when I return and close the door, but not immediately. I'm guessing Toyota used very slow, inexpensive processors in the car to keep cost down and thus the slow reset.
^^ And it is not only a Prius thing. The diesel Toyota I have does the same, and alerts me as soon as I get outside (to clean the windscreen, etc.) It is standard for Toyotas with keyless start.
seattle.. i just read your topic... maybe it is?... i feel this is more of a reminder/anti theft thing? on the older prius it does something very similar.. but more of a "can't charge h/v pack" error message.. which also freaked people out at first because they thought it was a true error... (it's actually a safety feature to help the vehicle from rolling away since it's easy to not push park.. which is why it's saying " use park if you're going to open your door" kind of thing)
