Is it just me or do you think they could have chosen better rims for the car? I mean they're not terrible but they're just not as cool looking as the third-generation Prius five. Has anyone considered putting the rims from the third-generation Prius five on the new plug-in. It looks like they're on some of the demo PiP cars on YouTube. Any thoughts.
I agree. The Prius Plug-in rims look too busy to me as I prefer fewer spokes for a cleaner look. Furthermore, the spokes have an asymmetric fin which point in one direction on the driver's side and the opposite direction on the passenger's side. I like the Prius Liftback's rims better as well, but it's not worth the hassle and cost to me to switch them.
I had the same thought and even asked the dealer if he would switch them for me. The big concern was voiding the warranty out the door if you change the spec of the manufactured vehicle. I am waiting to upgrade rims when i need new tires..............should be about a year or so.
I agree. The PIP rims are too conservative. From a short distance, they look almost like the hub caps of older Prii. Toyota should have done something rather distinctive to set the PIP apart. The wheels should have shouted, "I'm a PIP!" I think they clearly missed the boat on this one. As for upgrading, I am worried about how to do that and keep my great PIP mileage. Does anyone know if the other Prius rims have the same weight and are just as strong? Aren't the PIP rims supposed to have been specially engineered? I've already spent enough money on my Advanced PIP! Still, if I could, I would strongly consider upgrading these Plain Jane rims.
Might as well just get an aftermarket option. Though if you like the ghetto look, tint your windows, switch your Toyota badges with Lexus (assuming they fit), and just put on CT250 wheels.
I actually like the wheels on my advanced pip. I think they are a million times better than the stock wheels on my 08. If you guys dont like them, Ill buy them if you upgrade. I want an extra set for winter tires.
Anyone want to trade my 2011 OEM's for the PIP wheels? Been browsing for a set as I like them more than the OEM's
I love the PiP wheels. I was just admiring them yesterday as I walked toward my car. They give the car a serious upscale appearance, that is distinctive and eye-catching, that the Prius hatchback does not have. Matter of fact I find the std wheels to be very cheap and plastic-ie looking. No way would I swap.
Are all the bolt patterns the same? I've got winters for my Gen3 2010 that I would like to keep for a PiP if possible. Thanks.
Based on what I have found, yes all use 5x100 except the Prius v. They use 5x114 same as the Camry from what I have read. I think the 04-09 tires are 6" wide but the pip uses 6.5" width tires.
I like the PIP rims. With small 15" wheels having a full wheel like the PIP's alloy helps make it look bigger.
