Start calling around to other dealers in your region or go nationwide with your search, if you need the car before 2005. Many people on this board have had quite a bit of success using this method.
as posted elsewhere, i bought one at Fremont Toyota on Saturday the 10th. i called Stevens Creek Toyota today (12th) to let them know that i wanted to cancel my order. the fleet sales guy i've been working with, Joe Moreci (pronounced more-essy) said he'd "have to talk with the sales general manager (!) and he'd get back to me. he hasn't, but my sales person from Fremont called today to ask me how the car was. i'm going over there tomorrow to pay the balance due... i ordered the BC package, originally with color priority of salsa red, then Driftwood second. they've been unwilling/unable to give me any firm info, but it's due within 120 days of 1/12/04.... if they can't find anyone else on the list to take a BC of whatever color comes in, you might want to throw your hat in the ring.... good luck, one way or the other.
Hopefully we are close. We are number 35 on our dealer's list but there is only one Salsa Red #9 ahead of us. There were 6 ahead of us about a month ago. Our hope is it will be here by month's end. If not, we will begin a search of remote dealerships just in case. I hate to "double dip" if there is a fair chance we can get it locally, close to the promised timeframe. :?
I ordered a silver BI from Steven's Creek Toyota (Cupertino/San Jose, CA) on Feb 1. They estimated 6 to 8 weeks for delivery. At beginning of April, I was 35 on the list Now on May 11, I'm 28 on the list. Guess its really going to be 8 months wait, not 8 weeks! I wonder if I'll still get a 2004 model in September? Did the dealer lie to me or is this "normal"? :cussing:
I think that KRON Contact4 had a story on that....that some dealers are being misleading with the time it takes to get a Prius. shona
We are a bit bummed at the moment. We contacted the dealer and we are now 42 on the list with still 1 red #9 ahead of us. I figure the numbers we've been given are estimates since they use a folder system in a file drawer. Still, it seems we should have made some progress over the last several weeks, even if they haven't received a red #9. Dealer thought that the next couple shipments should be the ones....
Still holding Well, we are now reportedly #12 on the list and #1 for a Salsa #9. We may get lucky on the next allotment but probably not. Hoping for the best....
Just got the word that it's been allotted and is on it's way. We should be able to pick it up by 7/20. Nearly a six month wait if in fact we get it when dealer has projected. Trying not to get too excited.....
We've got Carmyne! We picked it up this evening. A few day ahead of the latest  promised date. Looks wonderful and my wife says it drives great (although she is a bit intimidated by high tech features). Looking forward to getting to know her over the next few days. Planning a road trip to Monterey this weekend.
