I'm picking up my car (in MD) on Thursday (yay!) and driving to upstate NY, as you might have seen in other threads. My mother just called to warn me that the weather is turning very cold and they're expecting -25deg tonight!!! Are there any precautions I should take? Maybe I should buy some drygas before I go up there? Thanks, Sandpiper
> Are there any precautions I should take? Like usual in extreme cold, drive slowly at first. The engine needs longer warm up time. Surprisingly, you can actually drive away rather quickly. Not much idling beforehand is needed. Remember, on the rare need for a jump (because the 12-volt auxillury battery couldn't take it, though it should) there's a connect-terminal available under the hood even though the battery itself is in back. Don't lick your Prius.
I think one of the stories from the 2004-prius group involved a frozen gas line disabling the ICE *while driving*, so yes, I'd say have some and use it...
Ok, cool, then it sounds like not much different than a "regular" car... I promise not to lick the car either, but I will send photos up when I get home! Thanks!
