I am looking into getting a package five and contemplating the ATP package. I want a higher res screen. But, it is worth the extra $3,900 for it? I know it comes with other stuff. But, I wished they just kept the 2010-2011 navigation for the lower end models.
Yeah they sure play the bundling game to maximize their price. I got the four with the solar pkg, so I got the HDD Nav package. Love it so far.
The basic Display Audio with Nav is an awesome little unit. It is a new and "Garmin" like nav system that is easy, intuitive, and completely functional while moving. Voice rec. works extremely well for POI catagory and Brand! searches. If you want Taco Bell, say it and it finds it. Walmart, Burger King, Office supplies, whatever just say it! All your stored locations are accessable while moving!!!!!, not just 5 presets like the other unit. And all adjacent streets to the one you are traveling on are displayed with names. Full sentence address entry works great, the touchscreen is easy and works nicely, the whole thing just makes sense. And iPod functionality is awesome, and the rest of the radio/sat is typical. Audio quality is not bad with surprising bass. Display Audio w. Nav may may not have the super resolution, but it has impressive functionality,. I can't speak for the most recent DENSO (Premium) unit, but I hated the DENSO nav in my Gen II Prius. It was useless while moving and was always telling me it can't navigate here nor give turn-by-turn guidance there........And forget trying to find anything specific while moving. Very few adjacent streets had their names displayed and the ones that did were not the intersecting streets. Useless. The repetative button pushing to get something simple entered was maddening. The touchscreen didn't respond very well either.
I went to the dealer today to look at the 2 nav systems. I have to say the base nav resolution leaves much to be desired. The premium nave screen is so much bigger and crisper. I am not sure it is worth the ATP package to get it among other things. The HUD is nice also, but at times distracting. I will have to download the app to use the in car apps and test it out further. I really hate how Toyota packages things.
I've had the HUD for a little over a week now (500 miles) and love it. Brightness and position can be adjusted or it can be turned off.
I have the Prius 3 with the lower end nav system, and it is awful compared to the navs in my 05 and 08 Prius. Is the higher end one worth $3900? Not when you can get a magellan or garmin gps system for less than $500, which is what I plan to do because I really can't deal with the built in nav system.
