I had a locksmith attempt to make a spare key for my 2008, but he used the wrong dongle and could not connect and only got an error. He also set off my brake, (!), ABS and VSC warning lights. But was unable to connect to the car to clear them for me. How can I clear these lights? I tried jumpering the pins on the OBDII plug and pressing the brake 8 times in 5 seconds. I've reset the error codes through the diagnostic display. And now I bought the PLX Kiwi bluetooth and Torque to use on my android to clear the error, but they are still there. Torque searches for the error codes but reports back that there are none. And the clear codes says it completes, but they won't go away. What does it take to clear these codes?
I remember reading from a long time ago that disconnecting the 12V battery for a few minutes will clear the codes. Maybe give that a try.
If you have tried disconnecting the 12V battery and also have tried jumpering the OBD-II connector and the warning lights persist, then you will need to consider the possibility that your car has a real problem. In that case I suggest you visit your local Toyota dealer so the DTC can be read and a diagnosis provided to you.
I could not read the codes with my bluetooth OBDII reader or with a scanner. I had to get it read with a Snap On scanner at a (non-Toyota) repair shop. The codes it found were: C1203- ECM Communication Circuit Malfunction C1345 - Linear Solenoid Valve Offset Learning Undone It would not simply clear them, so there was a genuine problem. You must Initialize and Calibrate the Linear Solenoid Valve. You have to use the scan tool to do this. You set the parking brake, Initialize and wait until the VCS and ABS lights stop blinking after about 2 minutes. The procedure was quick and was done for free by a buddy who wanted to know more about the Prius anyway.
This is not the first time that this exact problem has been reported. It can happen with some types of key programmers, as well as with some types of generic scan tools -- Craftsman in particular. C1203 is clearable by doing the OBD 4-13 pin jumpering and pushing the brake pedal 8 times in 5 seconds. C1345 requires a zero point calibration with Techstream or other factory level scan tool.
If you can drive (even though dash indic warn lights on)(plus red triangle) the codes may clear after so many driven miles...........
