Got into an accident on Monday, i have a broken wrist and elbow, fiancee has got a hairline crack in her sternum. Prius did everything correctly and kept us mostly safe. Vehicle appears totalled, my fault. Any idea what i'll get for it. It's an '08 with 93k miles. Insurance is with Geico! Thank you, Jeff
if you have full coverage than Geico will give you a check and the car will belong to them and there's nothing else to do. if you didn't have full coverage than you may actually come out better parting it out as the parts are going to be worth much, much more than the whole.
i'm not sure if they're going to give you private party good, private party excellent or NADA retail. Japanese cars hold their value well so I don't expect you to be under water with your loan if that's what you're worried about. You should be more concerned with your and your fiance's health and trying to get the accident report to say that it wasn't your fault or else your premiums are going to go up, way up.
Total loss. Check depends on the trim level and mileage, less deductible since it was your fault. Start doing research for advertised prices at dealerships and try to find some comparables. That will tell you what to expect.
Don't be afraid to negotiate. When my wife totaled her car a couple of years ago, I thought the amount of money they were going to give us was low. They came up a thousand after I spoke them.
Not sure how much you'll get for it... Good to hear you are both survivors. I think you could safely remove the word "probably" from your description. That's totalled. Take care of yourself....fiancee... And when the pain meds kick in...dream about your next vehicle...
In my state (Georgia) Geico doesn't negotiate. The amount the offer is the amount. The only option is to have another appraisal done at your expense and arbitration. My '08 had 82,056 miles on it at its demise. Geico gave me $15,681.95 they also gave me the rental car through the Christmas and New Year holidays. I had GAP coverage so in my case I came out all right on the deal. I'd only had the Prius for six months when the accident happened. iPad ? HD
Wow, sorry to hear that the Prius did such a poor job. I totaled my 96 Saturn in a similar manner with equal or more damage and suffered no injuries. Wish you a speedy recovery. MB860 ? 2
I feel your pain. Ours was totaled. Here's the tow truck guy loading it on the flat bed ... my final bye bye. The up side was - with over 100K miles, I'd guess our loaded '04 would garner maybe $8K - $9K ... but they gave us $14K !!! shhhhh don't tell them I'd have gladly taken $5K less .
I hear that, I paid $10,000 for a prius worth $15,500, if some idiot or drunk hits me and totals it that'd be just fine with me, I'll take the big fat check. That doesn't look bad at all, how was that damaged?
I worked in the industry for years. Ask them for their market evaluation report. Most Insurance Companies use an independant company that researches the market and tracks sold and currently availble vehicles. Then call on the cars in the report to make sure they match your vehicle. If they are on point then the deal is good. If they were not simular then you have negociating to do. Best of Luck.
