I just got a 2012 V with the 17" factory wheel option. The MPG are showing 39-40 average car has about 500 mi on it.The previous one I had was a 2010
III with 15" rims it got 50-53 mpg.The 2010 was totaled in accident,Boy it took a really hard hit.Anyone out the with a V 17" Factory wheel option?? Comments on MPG would be appreciated.. Thanks..

I assume you mean a V as in five, not v as in van? :) I think my 2010 Prius V with 215/45-17 tires gets about 2 MPG less than the other models with 195/65-15 tires. But that's only an educated guess.

My mileage has been down around 44 or 45 this winter; now that we have summer gas and warmer weather I'm up in the high 40's. I am not a hyper miler, but after I filled it today I decided to try a little harder and got it up to 58 MPG for the 40 miles home from the gas station. Freeway mileage at 70 or so is usually about 46 or 47 if there are not to many hills to climb.

I think 39 to 40 is way low for a prius V or five lift back, for a Prius v van I have no idea.

There's a bunch of threads on this subject--try a search if interested in the varied opinions.

FWIW, the UK specs show MPG for 15" wheel cars vs. 17" wheel cars. It's a few % difference. So the wheels/tires can't be what's causing the difference you're experiencing. Your car's still in the break-in period, so I'd give it some time to see if it improves.

My 2010 V is almost 3 years old, lifetime 45 MPG. Last 2 years ~47 MPG (first year lived in very hilly area, which really hurt MPG).

Don't get discouraged. Even the Prius Five hatchback can get decent MPG. Here is a my last tank of my 2011 Prius Five hatchback.

Every one Thanks for the reply's,The model is the five Not the wagon..The five has about 600mi on it maybe needs break in mileage. The tire pressure cold was on all tires was 40 Psi,I lowered it to 33 frt/32 rear. The three I had got 50-53 mpg.Maybe the tire pressure had some to do with lower Mpg..I hope so..Again Thanks alot for all replys...

if you are doing LA city-stop and go driving change your (cold) tire pressure up to 44psi front 42 psi rear for longer coasting/gliding distances - if you are going at 75 mph on the LA freeway stick to the Toyota's recommended tire pressure setting of 35psi front 33 psi rear. As the outside driving temperature gets warmer, the Prius MPG should naturally improve. The 2012 Prius V HB isn't that much heavier or different from a 2010 Prius III -- your MPG should be similar if all else is the same.

Look at that average mph. I sure hope you spent a lot of time stopped or at lights. :p

I just did a similar 59.7mpg trip (200miles) but the average speed indicated 52mph. On 15s.

LOL...what do you expect for Seattle traffic? :) Stop and go all the way! Stock tires I might add...but I do have them at 40psi front and 38 back. :D

Shudders at the thought of Seattle traffic.

I lived In Everett then Marysville for awhile. I always found it amussing when you put on your blinker to signal your intent to change lanes and no matter who is currently in that lane they will floor it to try and keep you from getting in front of them. Even old ladies would do it and I drove a gnarly supercharged Mustang GT at the time with drag radials on the back. People are nuts! LOL

Congrats on the numbers. I've never seen the like with 17s.

My Five is brand new, still on the first tank of gas. Had 25 miles on the odo when it was delivered to me. I've been getting 57-58 mpg (displayed) for my 35 mile commute in Houston traffic which this week has been slow, but not too much actual stopping, just once in a while. Mostly hwy with some city.
