Yesterday, I saw a traffic officer from City of Los Angeles Department of Transportation, get out of her L.A.D.O.T Prius and stick a parking citation on a black Prius parked at a expired parking meter. Within the city boundries of the City of Los Angeles, Prius are exempt from paying at parking meters and can park at parking meters for free. Something is wrong here....What do you think?
Maybe they didn't have the HOV stickers? Per the city's website you need to have 'em on. http://www.lacity.org/ead/EADWeb-AQD/afv_consumer.htm That said... I had no idea we could park for free at the meters! As the king of parking tix, I'm thrilled.
TidelandTravis, check the below info. http://www.lacity.org/ladot/freepark.htm Free Parking Info Free Parking for Zero Emission Vehicles (ZEVs), Super Ultra Low Emission Vehicles (SULEVs) and certain Hybrid Vehicles - Pilot Program If you own a Zero Emission Vehicle or Super Ultra Low Emission Vehicle as defined by the California Air Resources Board, you may purchase a California Clean Air Vehicle Decal from the California Department of Motor Vehicles. Once you have purchased and affixed the decal to your vehicle per DMV instructions, you can park without depositing coins at on- and off-street metered parking spaces throughout the City of Los Angeles (however, you remain subject to the posted time limit restrictions and other higher order parking restrictions like Tow Away and Street Cleaning.) On October 1, 2004, participation in this free metered parking program was extended to four hybrid vehicle models: the Honda Insight, Honda Civic Hybrid, Toyota Prius, and the Ford Escape Hybrid. The eight-month pilot program for hybrid vehicles is due to expire at midnight on June 30, 2006.
LA downtown meters are a killer. 25cents for 15 minutes! Those LA parking officers are extremely good at patroling the area. Better response time than LAPD.
Yes, they are very good at patroling parking hotspots, especially around UCLA, and downtown L.A. Now they can patrol twice the amount of time because LADOT is slowly converting their car fleet to Prius 2G models. LAPD does not issue parking citations at parking meters that job is only for DOT traffic officers.
