Last Saturday, my 5 week old Prius c got hit by someone that hydroplaned on the interstate, they must of tapped me on the back and made my car start spinning left, and then I got hit a 2nd time in the door hinge of the drivers door, I think the 2nd hit caused me to get back straight, I could not believe the control I had in that skid to pull out of it so quickly. I was looking right at the guard rail. Everyone was okay, The Air Bag lights are on, but there was no deployment, and they valued the damaged at $4,100. The thing that upsets me is were gonna use all new toyota parts. but when I talked to the body shop they went over the list and a lot of it was were gonna repaint the hood for blending purposes, etc. So I don't think Im getting very much in the way of new parts, and Im upset now cause its now depreciated due to the accident, and so the person who is not at fault still takes a huge hit appears Ive been sick to my stomach. Repairs are to be done in 11 days. Driving a Malibu as a rental.
Sorry to hear this. Hope everyone came out okay. Find another shop you can be happy with... talk to your insurance company.
Glad to hear that everyone was ok, hope everything turns out good. Is the hood damaged? Any part being replaced will have to be painted to match your car. Whether oem or aftermarket. If anything might be repairable, i.e dent, they would repair before replacement, so that would also need to be repainted to match your car. Blending paint is done on anything that needs to be repainted, even if the paint is brand new. Factors still play a role on how the color has faded or taken on a different color. They match the color and blend into the old, so it matches and you cannot see a transition from new to old. Now, it takes talent to get it right, but most auto painters should be able to get it right.
haha, I was trying to be optimistic. I have a door ding on both sides of my Scion. They will stay I know better. 2010 xB RS7 w Murasaki Purple
If the ding did not break the paint, I highly recommend paintless dent repair. The good techs can work wonders.
Glad you're OK. I'd consider suing for a new car. Your car will never be worth the same. Hope you can work out a better deal. At the minimum get them to paint the whole car. After all, it's brand new!
Speak with your insurance company about diminished value. [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diminished_value]Diminished value - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame] When I added my c to my insurance policy, I was surprised to hear if my car was totaled in a something like 10 months after purchase, my insurance com[any would replace the car. Perhaps your insurance company has similar tidbits you don't know about. Speak with them and bring up the diminished value aspect and work from there.
Interesting point find kkim. for my dents, both took off the paint. Hell! First ding was 3 weeks after I got the car....I saw it happen and got the license plate and then called the police...I got ins money Toyota wanted $650 for the ding (needless to say, I kept the cash) I am also trading it in on a 12 Prius, so I care no longer! hahahahahahahaha!
As long as you are safe... others are just secondary. Thanks for sharing and good luck in pursuing your insurance money!
Wow. Some of the replies on this thread are really extreme. No wonder our insurance rates are so high. It sounds like fairly minor damage if it's just over 4K. Your car will be fine and it should have very little if any impact on the value of the car. Get it fixed, drive it, have fun and don't worry about it! ron
I would be nearly heartbroken to damage my brand new car, so I feel for you. How awful. But I'm so glad no one was hurt.
