So when I have any of the headlights on, and I then off my car and open the door, my Prius doesn't warn me that I've left anything on... Shouldn't my car beep at me to turn them off?
It is by design that there is no warning that the lights are left on because they automatically shut off in 30 seconds (factory setting). This can be changed to different delay options only by the dealer. We decided to change the delay to ZERO seconds so when you shut off the car and open the driver’s door, the lights automatically shut off. We did this for a couple of reasons: The first reason was that it was a little confusing once you were out of the car whether the car was on or off because of the default 30 second delay. When we first got the car we parked it in the garage and thought it was off. The lights were on, but they were supposed to be. Came out later and the ICE was running to recharge. Not a very safe situation inside the garage. So by setting the delay to ZERO, when you shut off the car and open the driver’s door, they shut off immediately. You know for certain whether the car is on or off. Second reason to change the delay to ZERO was since the car doesn’t come with daytime running lights or automatic headlights, we just leave the headlight switch on at all times. Start the car, headlights on, shut off the car, headlights off. To me this is another huge safety issue. It is too easy to get in when the there is plenty of light from the parking lot and start to drive off without remembering to turn on your headlights. We have had Chevy’s for years and were spoiled on the “automatic hands off the switch-forget-em headlight featureâ€.
Wow, great response and good idea to turn off when the car is off. Thanks, I tested yesterday and I guess I didn't wait 30 seconds.
