I have a 2010 with 64K miles that I purchased new. Lately I feel like the ride is starting to get rough. I really am not sure if it is related to the Conti Ecoplus given they were put on after the winter. THe ride seems to get worse with a passenger in the rear. My question is does that sound reasonable or you guys think it is the tires? Also a quick check online show a new rear shock is $32 while new fronts are $90 each. What do you guys think?

What do you mean by rough?

The springs are probably beginning to wear. I thought my struts and shocks were beginning to wear as well, until I installed new PLUS package springs. Then the problem was resolved.

But at 64k, I would consider replacing the shocks and struts anyway. I plan to do mine at 60k.

Springs don't wear out, they just sag....

The rear shocks are surprisingly cheap, but the fronts will require some thinking.

Car just bounces hard when I hit a bump. My wife is pregnant, she is extra sensitive to motion.

That is true, and sagging springs are usually weaker springs, and do not behave as well as you would expect.

You are correct though, that a new set of shocks is probably worth a try in this situation.

What aftermarket options are out there?

KYB said their aftermarket Excel-G product should be out this quarter, but they do not have a firm date.

With the car parked, try bouncing each corner of the car. If a corner isn't firm and continues to oscillate after you stop pushing, that shock is bad.

More likely, the tires are your problem. Set their pressures to stock values and drive with rear passengers again.

I'd be very surprised if it's shocks. I have 123,000Kms (75000 miles) on my 2010 and the suspension is still excellent despite the rural and gravel roads I mostly drive.

Check your tyre pressures. What psi are you running them at?

Failing that it could be your roll bar (sway bar?) bushes failing, esp if you have lots of speed bumps or rough roads. Maybe some cross links too? but I doubt it would be the shockers.

I'll second the tires... When my last set was pretty worn, and at 40 PSI, the ride got progressively worse.

New tires (Kumho) at 40 PSI, it's a whole different ride (not rough - smooth) - FYI - I'm at around 55K...

    ...Well reading between the lines?

You have a pregnant wife and a child on the way.

So I'd say? Have it all checked out.

Couldn't hurt to have your suspension checked and your tires.

What you might need is an honest technician.

For the $150 it will cost for a diagnosis, he should replace both rear shocks himself for $80 total first.

    Okay?

Sure...save money. I'm not against that idea.

I'm just saying "long distance" and based on written commentary it's hard to evaluate what might be causing the hard ride the OP is describing.

It could be Tires, Shocks, a combination of both, or something else nobody has even thought of...

I'm thinking if a child is on the way, comfort for everyone, and safety might be the primary concern.

Inwhich case, if the OP is experiencing a decline in the performance of the suspension? I'd recommend just having everything checked out.

Might save money on the other end, if it's determined the shocks are perfectly fine....

Might save something far more valuable if some other suspension problem is discovered.

If you are convinced it's the shocks? Sure just replace them. But if the OP was 100% convinced? I don't think we'd have a thread entitled "Possibly worn out shocks?".

There is nothing broken that I could see from under the car, no squeeking or clunking. It basically comes down to the shocks or the tires. The Ecoplus is suppose to be good based on all the testing, but I feel like the ride and tire noise are getting worse as I put more miles on them. It could also be the rear shocks, but I want to check in with others to see if shocks are going on their cars yet.

I've been through a couple sets of tyres on mine and I do know they start to run noisier the lower they get. It must be such a gradual thing as I only really notice it being much quieter when the new, same brand and model tyres are put on.

As others have said. If you're carrying important cargo, you should ensure the tyres and pressures are upto scratch.

I also have the Conti EcoPlus tires and have found them to give a harsh ride. I have reduced the pressure to 36/34 and still find the ride on the bumpy side.

OP, did you ever replace the shocks?

Starting to get a slightly bouncy rear end and rough ride from the back. I am at 43k, and am considering rear shock replacement as well.
