    Hi Everyone,

I recently purchased a 2005 Prius with a hair over 108K on the odometer. Very happy with my purchase thus far and can't complain about 45+ MPGs! This will be my daily commuter, 50 miles day, combination of city and highway. Sure beats the 24MPG I was getting with my previous commuter car. The car is a 1-owner vehicle and was originally purchased from the dealership where I purchased it. Just wanted to stop in and say "Hi".

Here's to many more miles of efficient driving.

    James

    James,
Glad you made the purchase. Same reason here. I bought the 2004 in 2010 at 110K because I drive 130 miles per day then. Over the 53K I've driven, gas savings compare to 23 mpg Lexus already paid half of the Prius. The maintenance cost of Prius is very low, I just need to change oil and tire so far, but due to the mileage, I did change serpentine belt, spark plugs, transmission oil and coolant, plus some light bulbs...

It is amazing that I did not pay attention to Prius back in 2007, when I did lots of research and bought a used Lexus LS400.

I currently use a large V8 SUV for all my families travels (kids, kid stuff and more kid stuff!). Can't wait to park that thing and take the Prius on all those trips. Averaging 17MPG on a 700-800 mile trip can get expensive.

    Prius = instant savings :rockon:

Hi James: I also bought a 2005 Prius back in last October (it had 123,000 miles) -- had I known how well made this car is AND the fact that we get 50+ mpg. - I would/should have bought one long ago. Did you check the service record for your vehicle? I did some maintenance/service type work on mine so I knew what had been done - I sleep better knowing. :)

I only have the Carfax, which shows it was serviced at the dealership where I purchased it and another local Toyota dealership.

I have a call into a service rep at the dealership where I purchased it see if they can, A) provide the service history, and B tell me if they will replace the Inverter Coolant Pump if it hasn't already been done (they should be able to see it in their records). I printed off the suggested service and maintenance for cars that hit 100K (posted in another thread). If the records don't show that the work has been done I will begin doing it myself shortly.

Welcome James, I too an a new owner of a 05 Prius. I just purchased it Monday when my 00 VW bug was totaled out by insurance. My wife prompted me to test drive it, and instantly i fell in love with it BEFORE i found out about the awesome mileage. It will be cool to compare notes as we can! I have a little over 85K on mine! Welcome!

My story exactly, James! Just this week bought my 2005 Prius, 109,000 miles, and a daily 50 round trip commute. I traded in a Mini Cooper which got 33 mpg, and I am counting on a big improvement!

Hello to all, and I look forward to swapping stories and sharing successes!

Me too. I got my 2005 this year but was able to buy it from my elderly father in law. So I know all the maintenance background (nothing was ever wrong with it), oil changes, etc. When I bought it from him, it had less than 17k miles on it if you can believe that! I love it and can't really ever imagine not owning a hybrid. In fact, I am selling my two non-hybrids so that I can add a second Prius hybrid to my garage. I hope you like yours as much as I like mine.

I bought my 05 a month ago and headed for Florida(From Ontario)
1470 miles I just got back and cost me $120 to come home avg mileage was 48.
30.5 gallons, that includes the last fill here at home at around $5.50 gallon.
As you can see I (60) live in a mile world and my car is in metric, while I was in Fl. I went into a dealer there to see what would be involved in changing it to miles and parts man see the service man and sevice man really didn't know. is it a chip or do you need to change the whole dash unit. or computer?? now I Know you can change the read out from mile to KLMs but I sure do not know what 4.5L per 100 KLMs is . other than its beter than the Wifes Subaru at 9.8L

Change from to miles is an easy and FREE user change. Read your manual!

The manual says push the button on right hand side...doing that only changes the speedo reading not the trip or full milage on car not the fuel economy readings. am I missing something?

You can cycle through odo/trip1/trip2 by pushing the trip button.

To reset the MPG you must push the MFD reset button. See below.

You are not missing anything. It probably would be necessary to replace the MFD with one from a US vehicle. Much easier to use the Internet to convert from l/100km to mpg:
L/100 km to MPG or MPG to L/100 km Fuel / Gas Efficiency / Consumption Conversion Chart / Table (Miles per US gallon to liters per 100 kilometers )

    4.5 l/100 km = 52.3 mpg which is great.

Since I don't have the above URL memorized, I find Google to be a great unit converter, at least for mileage related units.

Google for 4.5 l per 100 km in mpg.
