Here is the report. Looks good with almost no wear metal so changing the oil before 10k miles is not needed it seems. TBN was 8 so this Toyota oil should look good even up to 10k miles. At 10k I will send for another sample.
Thanks for posting this. The 10kmi sample will be more meaningful and it will take several changes for the silicon levels to stabilize, no doubt. How did you draw the sample and is your car burning oil?
I used Blackstone pump from the dipstick. The oil level was exactly on the F line before so no oil consumption. I then added the small amount back using Toyota 0-20w oil. I was wanted to see just how well the assembly process was for this test. They do a great job cleaning and machine everything during assembly with out a doubt. Ill post the 10k once I am ready for it and also the 20k after that.
Great info, I've been nervous about this. I've always changed the oil at 1-2k miles on a new engine and was hesitant when Toyota said first change is at 10k. Now if I can just get them to use the royal purple instead of mobile 1
If you do a lot of shorter trips, you should probably re-sample at 5k as well. It'll give you a good middle reading also. I'm going to switch back to 5k changes, because most of my drives are 5 miles or so each way, which puts me in the "severe use" category.
Hmm I would say maybe 10% are short like 3-4 miles. It might not be a bad idea. Maybe I might just do it to see at 5k how it all looks. Im at 2k now so won't be long.
Just wondering if you did do the test again at 5K miles or 10K? Assuming you have reached those miles. Im very interested to see the results.
