Blank in the 1 Min Consumption Display

I have seen this several times but never took a picture of it. There is a blank in my 1 min Consumption Display. This was on my commute home from work yesterday. I never stopped moving! I was in some traffic last night, where I was using mainly EV (not EV Mode), but I was always moving.

I noticed this at least once before, when I was transitioning from one highway to another in which I came down an off-ramp, got onto a service road and then immediately got onto another highway.

I also attached a picture of my trip home from work in which I got 66.8 mpg over a 34.7 mile trip, averaging 41 mph.

I know exactly what you mean. Like stopping for a Red light. I see that all the time, but I have seen blanks like this at least three times, when I'm moving. It's very strange!

 

I live on Long Island and my trip each way is about 35 miles. The first two miles and the last two miles are on local roads with lights and stop signs etc. In the middle is all highway. Do I ever stop on the highway if there is bad traffic/accidents, absolutely. But most of the time there are just slow downs or creeping along. Yesterday when I took this picture, I was never stopped on the highway portion, where the blank occurred.

 

OK, it happened again today. I recently got an HOV sticker for the LIE, so I have been taking that route to work. So today I get in the HOV lane and happened to glance down at the 1 min chart after about 3 minutes in the HOV lane. There it was, another blank in the bar chart.

Sorry about the fuzziness of the picture, but I took it while I was driving, because I knew it would disappear off the screen by the time I got to work.

As you can see in minutes 7 & 8, this is where I was getting onto the LIE and moving over to the HOV lane. There was no traffic at this point, so I was able to do this with no problem. In minutes 1 thru 6, I was cruising along in the HOV lane. I still can't figure out why a blank appears (min 4) in the middle of this.

Has anyone else every seen this?

 

Maybe it's just a Long Island thing!

I've seen this in ECO Mode and Normal Mode (which is all I drive in now). So, I don't think it makes a difference.

 

I have a 2012 model 3 which has the entune system. I get to it by selecting the Car button on the radio (lower screen), then selecting the Consumption tab on the screen. Your system may not have these selections.

I like to ride with the 1 Min Consumption screen on to see how I am doing. I call it my 1 Min Report Card!

 

That's typically the way it should work, because you went 0 miles and used 0 fuel. Both of my observations were while the car was continually moving.

Off topic, but, the 100 mpg line on the charts is really from 100 mpg to infinity. For instance if you go 1 mile all in EV (use no fuel) then you are getting infinite mpg.

OK! It's the three month anniversary of my car and there was another blank this morning. In that time period I was going from one highway onto a local road and then onto another highway. At no time did I ever stop for more that a second.
