It was great! The display said I averaged 56.2 mpg over my 17.2 mile commute. I'm very pleased with that. I traded in my Dodge Charger R/T for the Prius last night, prompting one of my coworkers to state, "You went from Mopar to No Pow'r. I thought that was cute. Anyway, just wanted to check in with the Prius community and spread my excitement. Have a great day all! Shawn
Shawn, No worries, you'll get your revenge; in spades! http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii-2010-prius-main-forum/103872-raced-camaro-won.html
The power is in your range, and that when you DO fill up, you're putting 8-9 gallons in for that 3-400 miles you just drove! Mileage will only improve as the car breaks in!
Nice job on the first commute mpg. Enjoy the car!! Read up on the car. The more you know the more interesting it becomes. I found the info on "hobbits" website helpful - link below HSI
Enjoy - this was my first week as well. I am having a blast trying to get the best MPG. But I live in a hilly area of MA. I am still getting 51mpg! I should have purchased a Prius many years ago. The Gen III version is something special.
Cool, enjoy the car! Yeah, I went from a Subaru wagon with <6 sec 0-60 to the 2012 Prius... and love the Prius. (Loved my wagon too, but obviously for very different reasons.)
Have great drives! This is my first week of commutes to and I look forward to going home even more because that means I get to drive my new Prius! So much fun trying to get a "high score" in the car.. haha.
Love your co-workers sense of humor. When you start to fill up remind them of the savings you get with each full tank full. Each 10 gallons saves me about $60 over my old Baja at the current $4 a gallon. Congrats on the first commute. It will be a daily game for awhile if my experience is any indication. I have been any where from 52 to 68mpg on the MFD it the commute. You might want to join in on Fuelly to track and share your highs and lows. Be sure to use the notes there to give us some insight on how the mileage was obtained. For me I am working on my first commute only fill-up before one of a couple road trips next week. Averaging 57mpg on the MFD, which should be about 53mpg actual.
You hit on a good point for us non-gamers out there, the Prius is fun to drive for besting our last best mileage. I also find myself more relaxed in driving in not trying to be like the rest of the idiots out there, racing light to light.
Really love it when they say those sweet little nothings! Prius is quite an engineering force. We've traveled all over the place in a Gen II (since March 2005) and now a Gen III, with plenty of comfort and speed... plus excellent MPGs! Oh, and no repair costs! Like others say in this thread, learn everything you can about your car and you'll get quite a bit out of it in return. Fuel efficiency isn't just fun, it saves you a bunch of $$$ every day you need to drive somewhere. Doesn't make any difference what price gasoline is at the pump... you save money. Sweet deal. Enjoy the ride!
