A question I saw elsewhere: Will the ScanGauge II work with the Plug-In Prius? The answer is "Yes".

The ScanGauge II now lets you add specific codes for the Prius under what are called Xgauges. I don't want to repeat others good work on this, so just search PriusChat for "Xgauge". A lot of the Xgauges for the Prius are listed here on the ScanGauge site. The Xgauges for the Gen III Prius should work with the Plug-In. I believe this is the Main Thread for ScanGauge here on PriusChat.

When you set up the ScanGauge II, Under MORE> SETUP> FUEL TYPE (options are Gas, Hybrid, Diesel A or Diesel B> SAVE. Select Hybrid or else your ScanGauge will shut down when your Prius goes into Battery Mode (when the ICE shuts down).

    Hi pfile,

Is your SGII Firmware 4.04+ ?

If yes, it is likely that this PID is changed in PiP. Could you test if this works:

XGauge TXD RXF RXD MTH NAM Notes
    1 Battery Voltage (Pack) 07E22174 010702EA0321 2810 000100020000 BV+ xxx V

Alternatively, you can also tried this VB that works in Torque:

XGauge TXD RXF RXD MTH NAM Notes
    1 Power Resource VB 07E22181 010702EA0323 1810 0001000A0000 VB xxx V

unfortunately the SGII has downrev firmware, 3.xx. can't remember exactly. but i will try that code and see what happens.

i'm going to send the SGII in next week to be upgraded.

I just got my ScanGauge II back from Linear Logic after having it upgraded. I haven't had a chance to try it out yet. I pick up my PiP in 8 days. There was less than 7 day turn-around on the upgrade.

thanks for the info jbrad4 - i really should have done this before the car arrived... the SGII has been sitting since i sold my '06 to buy the leaf.

Anyone else have the problem of it not shutting off ?

It turns on when the charging begins via the timer, then stays on afterward.

Good question I'm never awake when mine is charging. I can say its off when I get in first thing in the morning.

While we're at it, does anyone have a photo of how they've mounted their Scangauge II.
Right now I have it flopping around but I want to do something better with the velcro
and getting the cable to run so that I don't keep kicking it.

I think I'm going to go data free for awhile with my new PiP, and leave the ScanGauge in the 09 Prius. The data that help me the most are the water temp, RPM and IGN. I sometimes cycle through to VLT to read the 12V - that data helped me decide I needed a new one. I've never used the SOC function, so I may not know what I'm missing - it feels like that might be something that I don't think about with my current Prius that I might want to know more about with the PiP.

Here is the way I mount my two ScanGauges right in front of the steering wheel. Right below the SOC is the traction battery temperature. Both of these are xGauges. I find it very interesting to watch the traction battery temperature. This seems not to be the issue we have discussed. I have never seen temperatures above 71 degrees, yet.

The thing on top is a shield to keep the light from reflecting off the windshield.

The top unit seems to have some problems. I am working on that with Ron DeLong of Linear Logic.

i did not know you could daisy-chain them, that's pretty cool. i guess there *is* another RJ45 on there... but i didn't realize what it was for.

This is how I decided to mount my ScanGauge. I used a Blendmount to mount the gauge to my mirror. I removed the cover on the A pillar then tucked the cable from the gauge under the head liner and then tie wrapped the cable to existing wires in the A pillar. It took a couple of tries but it was rather easy to fish the cable down the existing hole towards the ODBC connector. Lastly I coupled the extension cable to the wire with the ODBC end via the provide coupler. Made a nice loop of cable and tie wrapped it all out of the way under the dash. Taking my time it was easily done in under an hour. I could probably do it again in under 30 minutes.

by the way, for those of you that only have a single scangauge, what are you displaying? as for me, i've got:

    rpm
fuel flow - to see if the engine is just spinning or actually burning fuel
    soc
    hv battery current

sometimes i see the fuel flow meter showing 0.02 even when RPM is 0, though.

Sorry about the naive question, but what does the ScanGuage get you that the Prius displays themselves does not? I understand RPM (not sure I am so interested in seeing the RPM myself), but how else does it help maintain/understand the PiP operation?

it can show you all kinds of stuff related to the engine and hybrid system: temperatures, voltages, ignition timing. you can also use it to scan for OBDII error codes.

whether or not it helps you depends on how bad your OCD is :)

Doesn't it also have the ability to change all sorts of low-level parameters that could severely adversely effect various systems on the car, or even damage them, if you don't know what you are doing?
