So, thanks to all who were able to direct me to a solution for the catalytic converter codes (spark plugs and O2 sensor did the trick!) but now I am curious to know about the P3191 code as it relates to an emissions test.

I was heading out of my office to get my emissions test this morning and the Triangle of Death kicked on. As always, after 3 stops/starts, all of the lights went out. I had the codes pulled and it showed the P3191.

I am curious to know if this will be enough to fail the emissions test? I don't want to reset the computer if at all possible (tags were up at the end of the month) but I don't want to fail either.

    Anyone have an idea?

Yes, any logged DTC will cause you to fail an emissions test.

If you clear the DTC, the engine ECU will note that and you must drive ~100 miles or so after clearing the DTC, and with no new DTC appearing, before an emissions test can be performed.

Rather than worrying about clearing the DTC, we should focus on what is causing P3191. Clean the throttle body interior and throttle plate using the minimum possible amount of throttle body cleaner applied to a clean cloth. Remove the air cleaner housing for access to the throttle body.

If that doesn't help, replace the iridium spark plugs especially if they have logged more than 60K miles.

As a last resort, check the engine ECU and replace it if the part number is lower than 89661-47054.

Bah, that was what I was afraid of.

Just replaced the spark plugs and will have the throttle cleaned tomorrow.

But, for the time being I guess I need to do a reset and just cross my fingers.

    Thanks!
