I have an auto-dimming mirror that I scavenged off of my 4Runner, before I traded him in. I've already verified that it mounts onto the same factory rear view mirror mount, but I'm looking to give it some power now. It's not a Homelink unit, so I don't need a constant hot wire. I was thinking that I could tap into the moonroof power wire. Does anyone know how to access the wires in that control unit? Are there some clips that need to snap free? I don't want to force it open and break something. Any help would be kindly appreciated.
I am the one the installed the home link mirror, I too looked at getting into the moonroof control, and couldn't. Actually it very easy to tuck the wire under the edge of the head liner, pull off of the door jam the black rubber thingie partially and tuck your wires down passenger pillar, then behind the glove box and attach it to outlet wires, black and white it ground and grey is switch 12v. it should take about 15 minutes. logical
Okay- that's saying something. I read your awesome detailed writeup about how you did your Homelink mirror. If you couldn't get that box off, then I'll probably resign to plan B. Maybe I'll give that a go tomorrow. Thanks for the heads up! ~ Eddy
Did the deed today. Wasn't bad at all. It's pretty cramped down there though. Took me a while to realize that the glove box door snaps right out! Sure made things a lot easier after that! Thanks for the wire orientation- didn't even have to take out the probe. I found an unoccupied bolt end I used as the ground. Just had to provide my own nut. Worked out perfectly!
