Query on Pricing 2012 Prius Two

Your last figures sound unrealistic to me, especially now that Prius demand is likely increasing due to higher gas prices. Their later offer sounds pretty good and I doubt you can better it by much, even at another dealer. It doesn't hurt to check out another dealer but I doubt they'd do any better than this. I bought my 2011 late last summer at full MSRP when they were in very short supply after the Japanese tsunami fallout curtailed production, nobody was doing any negotiating then. That $23,999 (plus ttl) and $14,500 trade in sounds darn good to me!

 

Sticker on my 2012 Prius III with Solar roof was $28K. I got it for $26K and $19,200 trade for my 2009 Ford Escape Hybrid 42,000M.

Toyota was is running deal of some kind on financing (March 2012) and dealership is high volume Prius seller. They seemed to have more room to move on the Prius than on the Prius C, which is what I had intended to buy.

 

You can definitely get it under $24k. Getting it under the $23k is where it gets tough. As far as the trade-in goes, 500 under what you were looking for isn't bad IMO. But then again, I'm no Kelley Blue Book appraisal expert.

 

they are making all the money on your trade. depends what they can get for your TDI in your area. I don't think you will get more than 1200-1400 off the prius unless they really rape you on your TDI. according to truecar.com the $ difference between MSRP 24760 and dealercost 23288 is $1472. plus whatever mark up on the options. these cars are rising in demand due to fuel costs.

the deal you got it down to (23999 for the pri), sounds actually pretty darn good. anything is possible like if they think they can get 24000 or something for your TDI in your area. all it depends on is what other places might be able to give you for your trade

 

I was not seeing anything close to 2k off of MSRP on any of the 12's - under invoice on the 11's

It is hard to give you any kind of numbers because the dealers can make money on so many parts of the purchase.

Dealers want 5k difference on a used car -- and without knowing the financing .. thats another profit center.

 

What options does it have to jack up 2k?

The tdi is a fine car. I would buy it for 16 if it has lowmiles

 

You're $1500 apart ... say you'll b uy the car right now if they split the difference.

I don't know if at this time you have wiggle room. I doubt a dealer is going to call you back, Pri are selling pretty fast in my area. I got my 2011 Pri 11 because the dealer had bought bulk & then sold them slightly below MSRP & no room to bargin since they were selling out the door & all were gone witin 1 wk. The Pri c are doing well too in the area & don't last on the lot for 1 day. Only the 2012 Pri 111 are hanging around for more than 1 week. Good luck with the dealerships you are visiting. I would go with one that has good sales people. My Toyota experience was great, I wouldn't walk back into the Chevy dealer again after my experience with them.

 

They WILL call you; a good and reputable dealer would. But idk if they'll accept your offer. Just do the dirty work in the meantime and shop around.

 

For comparison, I just bought a 2012 PII for 23,200 including everything except ttt...paid an additional 700.00 for dealer-installed Katzkin leather interior, grand total 23,900.

 

I am new here. After debating for about a month between 2012 Honda Accord EX and 2012 Prius II, finally I decided to get Prius II. I got mine at Miller Toyota in Anaheim for $22,388 + tax+Lic and some other fees, total up to $24,445.09. The car MSRP is $24,985. It includes floor mat and trunk mat. I finance with 0 down and got 3% for 60 months. As far as I know, no other dealer can beat this price even Longo Toyota. I think, there is still one left with $22,388 at Miller, Silver color with grey interior. Hurry up. You can look at Miller Toyota of Anaheim website.

 

I just purchased one last week. I used a coupon from another dealer and paid $23k for a new 2012 w/ floor mats and wheel locks. The asking price was $24k and the dealer invoice said ~$23,900. So I got it $900 below invoice. Apparently their is not a lot of profit in making the Prius, at least not now.

This is before the $760 destination charge, tax's extended warranty etc... fees.

 

That is a good deal. I got mine for $22,500 from Hooman in Long Beach. Power in Cerritos were the only one that can beat the price, but I went with Hooman bc they have their "VIP" service that they offer; lifetime oil/tires/car wash. Not interested in oil change bc I don't trust dealer oil changes, lifetime tire replacement has a catch, but the lifetime car wash was what sold me .

 

To be honest it would help to know more about your trade....

Know that with my 2003 Baja I pegged the value at $7k; with Koons Toyota screwing me with an initial $5k offer... Only to get a telephone call the next day as I was signing my deal on a 2012 vs their 2011 offering $7k finally... Only to have Carmax Toyota offering me $9k!

As to what to offer off of MSRP, why do folks want to spend time and effort at getting the "lowest price" to spend hours on end to get it?

I also work in the retail sector in the photography area. Why do folks think that any shop should give away their product? At $23.8k for my Prius - plus taxes and fees was a fair deal. Just a few hundred over the dealer invoice. Any holdback and incentives are theirs to have I, in order for them to keep the doors open.

 

Did you see that article about the dealer in FL marking up the Prius C $7k? If it is fair for dealers to rip off customers when they can, then it is more than reasonable for customers to look for the lowest price.

 

Not bad for life time car wash for $122.00

 

If you want to find out what your car is really worth go to Galves: Better than Kelley Blue Book for used car values!. KBB/edmunds are crap. Dealers use galves to appraise cars. Also there is about a 6.5% difference between invoice and msrp on a 2012 prius. Hope that helps. Good luck
