I'm thinking of buying a new key (fob) for my 04 prius on ebay. It costs about $80, a big savings off the $213 price my dealer has. It's the black logo on the back. The ebay listing says it's NOT self programmable. But I've read on older prius chat threads that it IS self programmable. Anyone have any recent experience with buying from ebay and programming it yourself?
my apologies. i have never lost a fob in three hybrids so i don't have any experience per say, but if you search these forums for replacement fobs and reprogramming etc., you will find that it has been a huge issue and a very difficult problem with people claiming all different kinds of solutions. i'm just saying to do your due diligence before dropping 80 bucks. sorry i can't be of more help.
I will tell you from personal experience that I successfully self-programmed a black logo (non-SKS) fob for everything using the instructions on this forum. This is on a 2008 base model Prius. Just make sure it matches what you already have.
