Helping a friend out in a Chicago suburb. He wants a '12 Prius V III. Gas is at a historic high now. How much are people paying for a new '12 Prius V III in the Midwest? Should he be able to get more then a $1300 off MSRP in this market?

I paid $250 over invoice. I don't think the Midwest is as negotiable as the west coast. We seem to have far fewer in this area than elsewhere. W

With gas now at the highest it's ever been in Chicago? Good luck.

    Well, Skoorb, consider the following:

    1) Supply - While Demand and limited supply will drive up cost, demand has to be sufficient enough and supply not only low, but the inflow of inventory insufficient to keep up with demand.

    2) There is still the used Prius market that will semi-supplement the supply issue for people unwilling to look at new car costs.

    3) There will be many who simply cannot afford to buy either in this case... Or will not be in the market to get a new car for quite some time, despite the gas issue.

This is the quote I received using the American express discount with these options. I live Southern California.

    Exterior:Blizzard Pearl
    Interior Dark Gray
    Options:· PREFERRED ACCESSORY PKG (Z1)
    · 50 STATE EMISSIONS (FE-M)
    · DARK GRAY, SYNTHETIC LEATHER SEAT TRIM (LA18)
    · 5-PIECE CARPET FLOOR MATS & TRUNK MAT (CF-1)
    · CARGO NET (GN)
    · FIRST AID KIT (3Z)

    Vehicle Price: $31,313.00
    Preferred Customer Discount: -$1,276.00
    Total Selling Price: $30,037.00
    Trade-in Value: -$3,250.00
    Difference: $26,787.00
    Sales Tax (estimate): +$2,332.13
    Tire/Battery/MVWEA: +$8.75
    Tag/Registration Fees (estimate): +$266.00
    Other: +$29.00
    Flat Add/County Fee: +$10.00
    Smog Abatement Fee: +$20.00
    Documentation Fee: +$55.00
    Balance Due (estimate): $29,507.88

Does anyone know what a good lease payment should be for this car? I was quoted $409 with $1054 due at signing. I'm thinking there shouldn't be any due at signing, since I'm trading in my car.

In Chicago gas is at a all time record high.

The best so far in the Chicago area region is $1800 off MSRP on a III.

Did you get below invoice very recently?

In northern CA I was able to get a +300 over invoice for a v5 using a Costco Discount, not sure what the cost would be for a v3 but it should be the same or less. So see if a Costco or Sam's Club membership is something you might be able to use and then get the car through that program.

It looks like CA has much better deals then the Midwest.

A friend paid $100 under invoice for a '12 III back in late Jan. Prices have gone up since then. The best deal I found as of yesterday is $1900 off MSRP. That is probably the best since 9 other dealers would not match that price.

The Costco price was only $1000 off MSRP in the Chicago area yesterday.

Just read in yesterday's paper that Toyota announced a price increase for the new V and other models, I think effective May 1, I would suggest not waiting very long to buy one. Good Luck!

Out of curiosity, how are you all calculating "invoice price"? Saying $xxxx over or under invoice doesn't really mean much unless there is a standard for invoice price. MSRP is pretty much a set deal, but invoice?
