Bloody hell. 49.7 MPG (unverified) on the MID for my long drive over the continental divide today. I thought my days of sub 50 mpg trips were gone till next winter.

I *could* blame the 10-15 mph headwinds for the lousy result, but I drive an HSD, damn it!

    ;)

*hopes Sage doesn't find the chicken skull and rat bones F8L hid in the airbox as an anti-mpg mojo curse*

And there I thought my headache was just from mpg frustration.

I'm not sure if it is a combination of the car and the tires breaking in or if it was just a good day but I got the best mpg on my commute to date.

This morning's commute averaged 48.5mpg with ambient temps in the high 40s. This is the uphill portion of the commute.

This evening's commute home averaged 70.8mpg with ambient temps in the high 50s. This is the downhill portion of the commute.

    I'm pretty friggin' stoked! :)

I have hilly drive too, but I start at about 450ft, hit near Sea Level, then back to around 450 ft. Steep downhill in the morning and slight uphill to the office. I can average 50-52 indicated on the gauge, which normally is about 3 mpg off. I try to keep it in electric mode on the streets, but the highway I'm at least 65-70 mph. I've noticed if I'm talking on the (hands free) phone, I usually do 10% worse, so it makes a big difference if you are paying attention. I did two trips from San Diego to Glendale (NE of LA) last week and hit 56 mpg one day and 54 the other. This is with fast open freeway 70-80, and slow traffic off and on. I was really amazed at that. I run the tires at 44 psi all around. (Plus a few other tricks I'm developing)
