I've found a few dealers outside of California that have PiPs - and I am thinking of buying and transport it back to California. Has anyone bought a car outside the state before? Any issues with registering, green sticker, rebate, if I do it that way?
I'd be careful. It might work, but do your homework first. I think the cars sold in California (and some other states apparently - not sure which) have a different warranty, which is required for HOV sticker. Just make sure you pay the taxes correctly. Each state is different. Some have a sales tax reciprocity agreement with CA some don't. Normally you'll get a one trip permit back to CA and then register and pay sales tax here within 10 days of purchase. Also check if any of the tax credits are effected by purchasing in another state. I have a white base PIP on the boat that I may not buy. Let me know if you have any interest if I decide to not keep it.
Yep, more specifically, I'd be worried about the CARB battery warranty (should be 10 years/150K miles). Yes, I too would be worried about sales tax and Clean Vehicle Rebate Project.
Good tips guys -I didn't think about that. I found it in washington state - I am double checking but it looks like they adopted california's warranty standard on these things. If anyone knows for sure - that would be helpful!
I am interested! The green sticker may save my workaholic sister's relationship with her fiancee, since she could spend 2 more hours with him if she wasn't stuck in traffic. Let me know. My email address is my username at gmail.
Im looking for an advanced model if anyone is looking to trade down to a basic model. My PIP bas should be in northern california anytime now.
I looked at the warranty book - there is a deviation in the warranty for Washington state - looks like this won't work from what I can tell.
