My story goes like this: I was a proud owner of 2010 Prius III(Nav) back in 2010, which I sold in 2011 to get a bigger car. I regretted that decision every day since then. Whenever I would pass a 2010-2011 Prius I would curse myself for that bad decision. In Jan 2012 we needed a second car and I got a brand new 2012 Prius 3 for nice discount and now I finally sold my other car to get a leftover 2011 Prius II in a great deal :cheer2: Even though it might not be the best financial decision trading in an almost new car, I am confident that overall I didn't do bad with the discounts on my two Prii. Above all I am very happy now. Wife drives the 2012 and I drive the 2011. I am already missing the 3 door SKS and the trip info that 2012 Prius give at the end of each trip, but I got my favorite color(Winter Grey) and my 2011 is built after Toyota took care of the cold soak issue. Now if I can get my wife to be MPG cautious and log in fuel consumption after each tank on her 2012, I would be even more happy
Well ... I glad you are driving what you want. But I'm not sure I would push you wife to watch her mpg or her log book -- she may want to look at what all your car switching could purchase in gasoline and accounting
Congrats -- the purpose in life is to be good and be happy. Not to make the best financial decisions. Now, when was the cold soak issue addressed, and how do I know if my 2011 is after that date?
Thanks everyone. The bigger car is actually a 2011 Highlander. I believe the cold start issue has been fixed in 2011s with VINs after the ones listed below in the image.
Thanks! Cold start/soak issue is the loud engine rattling noise that some 3rd Gen Prii have been experiencing, usually when turned ON on a cold morning or after few days of inactivity. I believe there is thread for that on priuschat
3-Door SKS? There's a Mod for that!!! http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...-passenger-door-1-door-sks-gen-iii-prius.html
Ah well, drive long and happy in the 2011. I did a very similar thing. I was pretty bummed about the whole 2009 prius experience and frankly not sure the 3rd gen would be good enough. Bought a brand new Accord Coupe and within a week or so felt I missed out on Prius. Traded in after 10 months or so. Although there will always be other cars more tempting like PiP or what have you, this Prius will do just fine for a loooooooooong time. Long as it doesn't get crunched .
