Shortly after taking my 2011 car in for an oil change, I'm getting an occasional message flashing on my naviscreen Telling me to insert a navi DVD. Anybody else have this occur?
Possible loose wire or a dirty DVD disk. It's still under warranty, take it to the dealer. Have you ejected the disk and reinserted it?
Hopefully the disk is still there, 2011 is kinda young for a DVD read failure! Dirt should not be a factor, unless you drive many dirt roads with the windows open. It hopefully is still under warranty!
Car only has 10,000 mi on the clock. I'm thinking that maybe they did something when I had it in for service. It started the day after I had it in the dealership.
I think a trip back to the dealer is in order, it's either a quick fix, or something major broke! with 10K on the odo, warranty time!
I would try ejecting the DVD, clean it with a clean cloth and try re-inserting it first. If this does not work then take it to the dealer. Yes the DVD is behind the Nav screen on the Gen III versus under the seat on the Gen II. Both the CD's and the Nav DVD are behind the Nav screen on the Gen III. The Nav screen moves out and down for access to the two slots.
It is needed for the GPS map to work on the Nav screen on a 2010 and 2011 Gen III Prius. I see you have a 2012 so you have an entirely different Nav system and do not use the DVD.
I had an optical CD in my 1996 Jeep GC that was still working fine when I traded it in on my Prius !! My Prius is moving on 3 years and the CD still works fine. Where did you get the idea that you cannot listen to a CD and use the GPS map? There are separate players for the CD and the DVD. Of course you can use the CD and the GPS map. It sounds like you need to slow down and read these posts a little more thoroughly.
Make certain your Nav DVD is still in the Nav drive behind the LCD. Perhaps the dealer mechanic upgraded his car using yours.
OK, fair enough. The 2004-2009 Gen II have the DVD under the driver's seat. The 2010-2011 Gen III have the DVD and CD behind the Nav. Your new 2012 should have a new Nav system called Entune. You will have to ask another 2012 owner about this one. Clear as mud
