This is a very cool thread. I'd be interested in doing this myself. I have a 5 day old 2010 Prius IV. I love it.

Everytime I check they are still expensive.... I suppose if you wanted to spend 100 to 300.00 you could throw a few into the bottom "when turned upside down" and pour epoxy in to hold them. Could be an expensive project but possible.

Humm.. good luck... I haven't been able to find any.... seems anyone who sells that stuff knows to go to cpf as there are most of the buyers for such.

You would have to find an industrial use link and then be able to provide credentials proving you were using it for a legit reason thats possibly trackable.

If you could find a slick way to power it.... a few leds thrown in would sure be much easier!..... they could be on anytime the car is on for that matter as they shouldn't go bad from overuse.

I've thought about cramming a strip of those led floorboard lights you can buy into the shifter if you could find a thin enough one to fit...... I'm sure that would look quite jazzy as there would be many lights reflected through the top blue lens.

Running the power wire inside the shifter bar would be the slickest..... I just haven't wanted to tear into everything to do it.

would be cool if you could get this into the shifter.. its 20" long and .3" wide

According to the Glowpower site Glow in the Dark Charging Lights , UV LEDs would work very well for charging the glowpowder. What if the overhead console LED was replaced with a UV LED? That should reduce the visible lighting level and increase the glow emitted by the glowpowder.

Excellent catch and a great idea. I'll look into it further for mine.

Here's an interesting excerpt from your Glowpowder site link above . . . . .

A black light shining on a glow surface for 30 seconds will cause that surface to be 10 times brighter than a flashlight on it for 6 hours.

Here is a simple list of bulbs in order from least to most efficient:

    White LED's
    Blue/Purple LED's
    Incandescent - standard light bulb
Compact Fluorescent or CFL - spiral tube, screw-in
    Fluorescent Bulbs - long tubes
    UV LED's
    Black Light Tube
    Direct Sunlight

Powder arrived this morning and is now in the shifter.

Going out tonight so I'll see how well this project worked out for me.

I went with the cream colored glow powder (purchased on Amazon) which glows blue.

The process was very easy (and still I made a bit of a mess) and only set me back $10 or so. Wish me luck.

Now, what do I do with the remaining powder...?

Feed it to the dog and get a UV flashlight, find a fresh dog log and tell your wife "The dog is radioactive! Call the vet!"

"If" I can Order a Spare Shifter I'll Experiment with it until I've perfected it with a Illuminated Blue LED. I have some Knowledge Of LED's & Blue Tooth's Devises so I'll stay at it and on it Until Mastered Perfectly. Indeed that a Small LED would need to be placed at Base Of Shifter thats Easy. I just need to decide which technology would best be suited to illuminate Shifter Wirelessly and with all the different Products & Technology out these days we should be able to Get it Mastered Flawlessly... I'll Keep you Folk's Posted & Post Pictures just Bare with me I'll make it happen....
