Swung by local Toyota dealership to see if they had any Cs. We bought a 2012 Civic LX Sedan Auto recently so not really in the market. Curious if I even fit. 6'4" 315#, I had about 1 inch of head room, hip and leg, both side to side and forward. I was 340# 3rd of January. Even at my current weight this car would be a no go. With my continual weight loss I would like try it on for size again once I get back down to 280, the lowest I have been as an adult. It sure is smaller in person. I have previously owned a CRX and two 96 Civics, so I have driven smaller cars. Don't know how many people my size are looking at this car but might as well give those in my group a heads up.
pmike, I just bought a C2 a couple weeks ago. I'm 6-3 and 300lbs and I fit perfectly in the car. My only bone to pick is with the drivers seat. I wish it was deeper for more thigh support for longer trips.
I'm 6'6" 265lb, and I fit fine once I tip the seat back a bit. My only struggle is exiting/entering. Coming from a 2Dr Yaris with bigger doors, the C has smaller egress room.
Yes. I am familiar with this routine getting in my wife's Civic. She is 5'1" 110#, so we cover the opposite ends of the spectrum in fitting in the seat. I like to sit very upright, no riding dirty for me.
And the salesman didn't try to upsell you to the sunroof ??? True story: There's a guy in Lake Forest, CA that weighs about 300+ # and drives a Smart Car convertible. I see him about once or twice a week on the roads. I'm not sure why he chose that car, but I think it's great that he's driving that instead of a Hummer.
I think I know what you are getting at having stick his head out of the sunroof, but don't sunroofs generally decrease available headroom due to the added tracks and mechanism in the headliner?
Btw, Pmike, how do you like the new Civic? I love the aerodynamic roofline on it from the hood to windshield to roof to back window to trunk. Very aerodynamic!
The wife and I really like it. Wife gets 34-36mpg city driving without trying to drive green, does 41mpg on flat 70mph cruise control. Interesting that the EU Civic is a liftback, plus the deep well in the trunk. It's almost as if the next Civic Hybrid (if it will be using the EU platform) will be taking a few pages out of the Prius playbook-- Going to a liftback and tucking the HV battery under the seat to free up cargo space. If Honda will put into a liftback Civic Hybrid a two-electric-motor ECVT (HSD-like) drivetrain like what they will be using for the upcoming Accord plug-in hybrid, they might as well rename the car the Honda Prius. Or Honda Hindsight III. ound:
pmike, I just got the C2, 6'3 296lbs, I originally bought my Tundra in '10 because of a back injury from military service, unfortunately in the past two years I've gained 80 lbs because of this injury and I switched to the C because I fit rather comfortably in it and can't justify the gas mileage of the Tundra anymore now that a small car actually fits comfortably. The only concern I have is that the C only carries a cargo weight of approx 850 lbs, so at 300, you lower the total available weight remaining in the vehicle, but my wife is 120 and my son is a toddler so we really don't have much need for heavy capacity anymore. My recommendation is to go for the C.
