Hello everyone, I am getting a Prius this weekend, and the only ones they have at this particular dealer that I *must* go to for particular reasons, are a 2011 Prius package 3 and a 2012 Prius package 2. They are about the same price, the 2011 is a $500 more but I know how to haggle My question is, am I still better off with the 2012 model overall? I don't care for navigation if that's the main upgrade in the 2011 package 3 model... I truly appreciate any advice, this will be my first brand new car and I'm very excited
Wish I knew all the standard & optional equipment in both cars but if their pretty equal w/ 2011 having jjust minor extra features, being that 2011 is $500 more, I would get the 2012.
But if it's major extra features that the 2011 has, such as nav. or pana. moonroof than I could be persuaded.
Well, there's a 2011 Prius Three model no nav then 2011 Three with nav I have three no nav. it has JBL upgraded audio, 6 CD changer and voice activated handsfree bluetooth that the 2011 Two does not have. the 2011 three w/ nav gains touchscreen with the flip face 4 CD changer behind, navi of course, backup camera and USB port. this adds $1.8k to price. the 2012 Two comes with touchscreen audio system, bluetooth and USB port, but neither Two nor Three has JBL, and I've heard it compared to mine, and to me, it does not compare - it's a base type audio system. Not that mine is all audiophile, but it stands up to my Accord coupe premium audio. I don't think any of the 2012's have CD changer because these days people use players into USB ports or HD / XM satellite radio. I'm aware of at least 2 tech service bulletins in the '10/11 Prius - one for right rear engine mount. There is an upgraded part in the 2012. Not sure if some of the latest build '11s got that part. Also, the intake manifold on '12 is an upgraded part to alleviate some cold soak/start knocking some owners reported. Mine was built in Oct 2011 and it does not have the upgraded intake manifold. Look in the care and maintenance section here under the 'sticky' threads for more info.
I appreciate your info! Their website doesn't show whether it has nav or a JBL sound system so I'll have to wait until I see it in person. If it has the upgraded sound system I think I'll have to get it!
I just made this choice last week and this is what I know 2012 2 has backup camera 2011 3 has Xm radio and JBL stereo standard. I bought the 2011 3 as they were also more willing to deal on it and I wanted xm integrated
2012 II does not have a back up camera. There was at least one online article that claimed that the II's did have a backup cam, but this is false. I wish it wasn't though
The 2012 Two does not have navigation, no backup camera and no upgraded sound system. It does have the 6.1" 'touchscreen audio" which allows you to adjust audio settings and some other things by touchscreen. Only the 10/11 with nav had a touchscreen. Even the '12 Three does not have upgraded sound (JBL) which is a change because the 10/11 base Three and at least back to 08/09 Prius package 3 had upgraded sound... have to get '12 Four to get the new 'Greenedge JBL' system for upgraded sound. Some people have no qualms about pulling door panels off and such to upgrade speakers, etc...
My salesman emailed me about the options on the 2011 Prius three. It's starting to sound like a much better deal than the base 2012 Prius. It has these options: Solar Roof Package w/Navigation System Voice-Activated Touch-Screen DVD Navigation System w/ Integrated Backup Camera Appearance Package Preferred Premium Accessory Package Plus Preferred Accessory Package KBB shows that a 2011 Prius with those options is $27,400 dealer invoice and $30,000 MSRP. The dealer has it for $25,600. They have the 2012 Prius base model for $25,054. I prefer the look of a nautical blue 2012 Prius with a bisque interior, but black is my second choice, and those options sound pretty tempting...the solar roof sounds particularly cool What do you all think? I'll have one or the other by tomorrow evening =]
I think the 2011 is the way to go, it's what I did. Looks like the solar roof pkg includes what you get in the navigation pkg, so don't count both in the cost You can get the 2012 Prius 2 specs off the toyota website Here are the 2011 III specs If you build them using a TX zip code, they still let you build for 2011. tandard Features for 5 Door Hybrid Sedan Three 2011 ø Standard features in Base models. o Standard features in this model. Yep, I think I'll be going with the '11 as well, it seems like the better deal! I hope they still have it in by tomorrow!
Just thought I'd update you guys on what I got, 2012 Prius package 2 in Nautical Blue with a bisque interior. They didn't have the black one anymore, but I'm very satisfied with the one I got! It's a gorgeous color combination. On the 20 mile drive home, I got 64.4MPG and I am veryyy impressed considering it only has 31 miles so it's not even close to breaking in. =D
Congrats! At least on the 2012 you get the DRL's, which you wouldn't have gotten on the 2011. BTW, which dealer did you go through if you don't mind me asking?
Congrats on the new purchase. I love my 2012. I agree on the DRL's (daytime running lights), though you need to manually turn them off or at least think about them when turning off your regular headlights.
Congrats on the purchase. I would of got the 2012 as well. The only real difference is you get JBL speakers on the 2011 and you get a USB port on the 2012. Both have bluetooth. The USB port alone would of made me go with the 2012 and is one of the few reasons why I upgraded from 11 to 12. I had a 2011 package 2, traded & paid the difference for a 2012 package 3. Only thing I don't like about the '12 is the noisemaker, but you can disconnect it or remove it completely.
