I am purchasing my very first car! Had a dealer find me a Prius C Four, and I am picking it up in a different state this weekend. Currently I've been driving a borrowed '10 Prius IV, so I'm excited for the change. I've been hunting for an insurance company, and while I am not looking for any specific company recommendations, I am actually wondering about current Prius C owner's experience in getting insurance quotes. I have tried around five insurance companies so far, and none of them have the 2012 Prius C in their systems, even after I give them the VIN. They do have the Prius hatchback, Prius V, and Prius Plug-In in their systems, though. So all of the agents I've spoken to are quoting me based on the Prius hatchback. It seems to me that the Prius C is a much different/cheaper car, though, and I fear I am being over-quoted on a more "premium" or expensive vehicle. To make matters worse, it's been extremely difficult to explain to the insurance folks that a Prius C is not even remotely the same vehicle as a regular Prius hatchback. I had an agent try to convince me it was just a trim level! I don't blame them, though. I could see where that does not make sense, especially since most 2012 vehicles have been known about for months. Anyway, anyone having any insight? Is getting a quote for a regular Prius hatchback close enough?
I started going through the same thing, the insurance agent started to get frustrated and then she just asked me how much the sticker was for the car. They base the premiums off of the value of your car combined with other things like driving record.
my insurance is AAA. they have the vehicle in their system already. lol I checked with them last week
Insured mine with USAA this evening. Online site would not take the VIN so I called the company and they were able to insure for a little less than my 2010 Prius.
