The day I bought my car, I called SiriusXM and had my subscription that was in my M3 transferred over to the Prius… actually what they had to do was to cancel my Sirius account and then create an XM account and then transfer my credit to the XM account. They got the radio ID from the VIN number, etc. and it was all A-OK and I got my Howard Stern! YAY! I called XM this morning and wanted to add the NavTraffic, NavWeather, etc. to my subscriptions I was told at XM that my car doesn’t have this functionality, that there is only the radio. They had me go to channel 1 and see the radio ID number, which I did and read to them and they confirmed that that unit only receives radio station programming and not the NavTraffic, Weather, etc. This seems weird to me because there is functionality in there and I see it, but when I try to click on any of these features on the radio, it gives me a message saying “An Active XM subscription is needed for this service”. Also what is weird is that our 2011 Highlander Limited had the NavTraffic, Weather, etc. turned on as part of the 90 day free trial, and the unit in the Highlander doesn't seem nearly as sophisticated as the one in the Prius. Any idea how I can get these features?? Tom.
I just transferred my sirius from my chrysler to the prius and I was told I have to now pay more for Howard. What a bummer. They are already railing me, now they want more. and now I can't have traffic. FML.
Ps. how do you like the Heads Up display in your AT package? I'm kicking myself for not waiting to find a prius with that.
XM told me that Toyota has to do a software switch on the XM radios and to take it to dealer to get this done. In effect the radio has two XM ID's. One for the basic XM and one for Traffic. This was same on my Ford Escape. When I looked at my account online, it showed two device numbers for one radio. One for basic Sirius, one for Sirius Traffic link. Back to dealer next week to have XM Traffic toggled on.
When I called XM about transferring my existing subscription from my 2000 Insight to my 2011 Prius, they were unable to do it. Lots of issues in their system. Now they are telling me my 2011 doesn't have traffic capability. That's funny it did last week! I'm waiting for a supervisor callback. iPad ?
I was told by the salesman these features have to be accessed through a cell phone with internet access via Entune? I am hoping traffic and weather can be accessed via XM also. Looking forward to hearing what you learn.
Salesman is wrong. 1. XMNavTraffic is via XM. Nothing to do with internet or Entunes. XMNavTraffic comes via the satellite that does the XM radio. 2. Entunes internet connection via your phone's internet connection is different service entirely. Both do similar functions but are independent.
6.1 inch basic Nav unit cannot get XMNavTraffic and XMNavWeather. The unit is not capable of receiving the signal from XM. XM radio only. You can only get Traffic overlay via Entunes via your phones Bluetooth internet connection. 7 in HDD unit does include "XM Data Services" which does have XNNavTraffic overlays. It looks like you have the HDD unit so it is a matter of XM turning on the signal to the unit. Call XM while in the vehicle and they will activate it. Have your radio XM ID number (Channel 0 on the satellite radio) and your account information.
XM finally got their sh1t together and got these features activated.... Only took FOUR calls to listener care and an angry email.
What did you say to them that finally worked? I just got off the phone after talking to a useless customer service rep who I could barely understand, and a supervisor who insisted on speaking jargon, and neither could help me in any way shape or form. I'm about to fire off an angry email and see if that gets a response.
What has worked for me for two cars with XM is sit in the car. Have the radio ISN numbers ready (Channel 0 on the Prius). Call XM and they can activate the features live and you can see if it works or not, no calling back etc.
I have a 2012-3 with basic NAV and this appears to be true....no NavTraffic et. Very disappointed that this was not mentioned to me by the dealer. The quick reference guide supplied with the car says,"New Prius owners with factory-installed navigation receive a 36-month complimentary trial subscription to NavTraffic,NavWeather,Sports,Stocks and Fuel from SiriusXM". It says nothing about only with HDD. I called XM and they said my radio is not capable of receiving these features. I consider this to be fraudulent by Toyota.
I just called Toyota customer service and they confirmed that the XM radio on the Package 3 2012 Prius does not have NavTraffic,NavvWeather, etc. It is only available on the HDD XM radio. Bummer.
I am upset because it appears that I can only get live traffic through my very expensive data plan, rather than the relatively much cheaper Sirius XM option. Has Toyota limited my choice on my 2013 to just using Entune?
