2006 Prius (options 3) 140,000 + mileage. New tires, front brakes and waterpump. Everything else original. Noise and vibration in steering when turning to the right. Driving straight or turning to left normal sound. If i just turn slighly to the right and then straighten out, over and over the noise follows the turn. Any ideas?
Probably CV joint.. check boot; also check if OEM axle or looks replaced. It may be bent too (had that happen running over dead deer) I have similar noise on rebuilt axle, had not been a problem for last 180,000mi This should be moved to Prius II forum
If this occurs at higher speeds, over say 30 mph, I would suspect the left wheel bearing, do a search on this for more info.
My 2006 started to pull out of a parking stall and the car made a loud CLUNK. Car had no issues up to 17k. I had it towed to the dealer. The dealer r and r rack and pinion. The part cost was 226.60. Steering and suspension 103.00. Steerimg gearing assembly which cost 1094.97 Replaced a bolt witjwasher 2.52 R Ana r lower intermediate shaft. Part was 154.50 Replace intermediate shaft cost 215.10. Labor 484.10 Total parts was 902.29 Total bill was2000.00 Unfortunately, the horn no longer works. The airbag light is on and the AC controls no longer work from the wheel. The major new problem is the car now lurches because of a trackstion problem. It took one month to fix one problem and create a new set of problems. Consider yourself lucky. Things could be a lot worse. In Hawaii Prius owner's are not allowed to talk directly with Prius repair mechanics.. I uses to love my Prius until our divorce. Richard Total bill
