heard from some friends in the industry that the Hybrid tax proposal is payback for Toyota from Ford and GM. After Toyota took a controlling interest on the Hybrid battery manufacturing it left Detroit in a squeeze. But Detroit has a pretty good lobbying machine. The tax, they figure, should scare a few from buying Toyoyas or Hondas. with the amount of Hybrids out there the tax law is moronic at best. But the scare serves to taint an other-wise home-run story for the Japanese maufacturers. If you can't compete with better autos, well, let's call the lawyers.
I hope that isn't what got people started talking about a hybrid tax. Then again, I can't really see a reason why someone would take fuel efficient vehicles. Talk about a sad state of affairs for American auto makers if it is true.
