I have a new 2012 Prius III with the Daytime LED running lights in the lower bumper below the turn signals. They turn off when you turn on the headlights. Does anyone out there have any ideas on how to make them stay on when you turn on the head lights, but still stay on when you turn the headlghts off? Thanks for any help on this subject!
You might check with local laws about the number of lights illuminated at the same time. If you don't care, it would be a fun mod... let us know how it goes.
In other cars I've owned, it was simply a matter of pulling out DRL relay and leaving it out, and installing a perminant jumper in the relay socket. In our '12 Prii, however, I would want to consult a wire diagram first. In my past cars, the DRL's were powered through a relaxed relay. When the headlights were turned on, the DRL relay was energized to turn the DRL's off. Removing the DRL relay and installing the jumper powers the DRL's regardless of the headlight's condition. that will not work on 2012 prius. I have one and I was looking in to that for about a month. I did try to just like you say and DRL are on all the time, even if car is off when switch on parking or DRL, you switch to headlights, DRL relay power off, completely no power at all Once you turn the headlights ON the power to the DRL get's cut off (probably by the headlight relay) DRL relay gets no power at all, even if it has jumper like you say. little complecated
