We test drove a Prius C II today and are close to buying it. We'd like to get the dealer to install aftermarket heated seats ($650) but when I mentioned the Cs have airbags in the seat cushions (under your butt to push tight against the belt, I think) he became doubtful. They are trying to contact Toyota Canada to see if it's okay. Since we're close to a deal, I wonder if anyone has some thoughts on this. Would the heat affect the airbag and/or would it inhibit it's deployment?
I just bought a C package 2 as well and I have the same question but about just seat covers in general.
I think I read that seat covers on the front seats interfere with the other airbags in the seats, the ones on the upper sides.
Aftermarket Leather seats are sewn with thread that separates when the Seat mounted airbags deploy. If the job is done correctly, there should be no problems.
I'm not sure you would be able to do that. My dealership would say no way to installing aftermarket heated seats. That would be an independent shop's specialty. I wouldn't recommend it because of the existing airbags in the original seats. If you want the heated seats option the go for the C 4.
I had heaters installed by the dealer prior to delivery of my 3. It added $430.40 to the purchase price. Not saying that the "Stealership" would do anything that would detract from the safety of the car or put me or my passengers in danger - but it was and additional $430.40 and they did sell the car. They never made mention about interferring with airbag operation, and I was too uninformed to ask specifically.
