I was pretty pleased. I expect they will sell my trade in for $4K more than they gave me. I got no argument when I proposed this price.

Anyone in the New England area know of a dealer who is discounting? With gas prices going up it's going to be tough to get the dealer to move much from MSRP. Looking for a base Prius Two. MSRP in my area is $24,760.

Prius v "Two" model for $26,650 in Southeast (includes stupid SET fees Toyota charges that boost the "invoice" published price). This included $800 retail priced carpet mats and full window tint.

Theoretically, we paid $400 over base invoice in the SE region...
Received NADA "Good" trade-in for a very clean 2006 Honda Pilot in this deal so the dealer made it on the trade and turned a "two" to "earn" a more popular and profitable trim level next time.

After a couple of trips to the dealer, this particular car sat on the lot since mid-January as I noticed they turned roughly a dozen "v's" after we first saw it. Salesman told me folks all want the "Three" or "Five" models for the gizmos and maybe for resale value down the road. We have good smartphones with Pandora and don't need/want the "three" head unit so good deal! The "Three" market prices I could find were over $1500 more on average. And the "Five" models are just darn pricey even w/o the tech package.

We just got a Nautical Blue Prius 4 with the solar sunroof on Saturday for $30,700 at South Bay Toyota. MSRP is $33,040. Also negotiated 60 month loan at 2%. My credit union was doing 2.6% so this was better.

Worked with Erwin Koti who is their Fleet/Direct Sales Manager. Nice guy. Very professional, straight forward, and easy to deal with. Would highly recommend. Initially I probably would have bought through Dianne over at Carson but she did not have the color we wanted. For those of you who are looking for the easiest non negotiating deal she's a great resource for us who are local - highly recommend you talk with her or Erwin if you are looking to buy. He will compete with her best prices. We wanted to get a deal done before gas keeps going higher and no dealer is dealing and charging MSRP or more. I wanted to get the absolute best price possible so I went the route of making the dealers compete for my business. I like the negotiating process and see it as a fun game. Best time to negotiate is always at the end of the month when dealers are wanting to make their sales numbers goals - but gas prices got me off the fence a little early. It worked out for us.

The key to a great price is to make the dealers compete with one another for your business. Make them chase after you (while you are in the comfort of your own home). It's much better being the hunter rather than the hunted. I went to edmunds.com and used their "Get a Free Price Quote" service to begin the action. This gets the dealers who have a car you want contacting you. They emailed me back what they had and then you can negotiate via email with them.

I just let each one know what my best price was and asked them to beat it. Several did until I got to the price where no other dealers were willing to go lower. I probably spent about a total of 30 min. at most doing the emails and saved. I didn't talk to Erwin until we had a confirmed price via email. Walked in, took the car for a quick spin, signed all the docs and off we went. Easy. What ever you do don't ever walk into a dealer and try and negotiate with retail sales people. You'll never win, and if you do get a good price you'll spend hours going back and forth getting more and more frustrated and have a terrible experience. When my wife and I walked into the dealership we had a good time, enjoyed seeing and driving the car, enjoyed meeting and working with Erwin and had a great experience since all was agreed upon before we ever entered the dealership. It really is the only way to fly. Hope this helps everyone here get your best deal too. Best wishes all!

My wife walked into a local Massachusetts dealership and negotiated in person with me on the phone. I asked her not to sign a contract or put a deposit down before she came home, but she did. She paid $27,298 (26999+299 documentation fee) plus state fees and taxes for a 2012 Prius 4 (with floor and cargo mats) with 92 miles.

A week later I helped a friend in Northern California to buy a 2012 Prius 3. By making online offers and soliciting bids, I found him his most preferred color combo with 5 miles on the odometer for $23,998 (including floor and cargo mats, rear bumper applique, and wheel locks). With the price and all details pre-negotiated, he said the purchase was the easiest and most stress-free car purchase he's ever made.

    Summary:
    2012 Prius 4, Red/Bisque, 92 miles, Massachusetts
CF (carpet floor and cargo mats)
    $27,298

    2012 Prius 3, Blue/DarkGray, 5 miles, N. Cal.
    CF(carpeted mats), WL(wheel locks), EF(rear bumper applique)
    $23,998

    Thanks!

Actually, I ended up with Winter Gray with Dark Gray interior. Loved the Blue and the Red but Knew the red would get me into trouble and the blue just didnt do it for me.

I am very happy with the car so far. The Gray is growing on me.
