Cfl's are dreadful. I'm replacing mine with halogen as and when they blow. The halogens use a third less than a normal bulb but much more than a cfl but at least they give instant brightness, don't flicker, don't contain nasties should you accidentally break one and don't stick out the bottom of your light fittings looking weird. Once led's come down in price for 220v, then I'll try those but cfl's are banned from this household now.
lol I'm a Yorkshire man! I appreciate investing in energy saving but £25 for 1 lightbulb is a bit much compared to £3 for a cfl or £1.50 for a halogen. Sure it'll save more in the longer term, much much longer term, but £25 for a lightbulb? I don't think so. When they get to £5 I'll consider them.
I agree that some CFLs are as you describe, but dispute this as a description for the entire field. I have very few installed incandescents remaining, and no halogens. But my household is also done buying CFLs. As the current supply very slowly dwindles, they will be replaced by LEDs. What is your maximum budgeting or investment horizon? It must be much shorter than mine. Or your electricity cost is dirt cheap. With a 60 watt, 3000 hour halogen bulb, the primary cost to me is not the £1.50 purchase price, but rather the $19 utility bill that comes with it. Because it lasts a fraction of the life of a CFL or LED, that utility cost really adds up.
You wouldn't see the spider, so nothing to be afraid about. For one of my cats, the world is always dark, and for the other cat, the world is always silent...
I bought one of those shower heads that lights up/ Blue, green or red depending on temp. No batteries, it uses a turbine (you can hear it) $10
That's a very practical device. Where did you get it? Does it really indicate a comfortable temperature accurately? Or is it just a toy? It would be a nice addition to my shower since I don't have a temperature gauge installed in my shower - yet.
I can tell when the water is a comfortable temperature. I've got these fancy temperature-sensors all over my skin. I inherited the ability from my folks. The shower head sounds like a fun gadget, though.
