Not sure if this should post in Technical section or the Fuel economy. Background: Vehicle: 07 Prius Pkg 4 with exactly 85000 miles. Weather: Light snow falling @ 30-36 degrees. Vehicle conditions: Excellent,average mpg @ 41.8 on MFD @ 271 miles. By calc mileage is better than shown on screenFuel in tank Approx 2 gallons/ 1 PIP remaining on HUD screen. Vehicle rested overnight then was driven approx. 3 miles when 1 PIP remaining. Stopped car at first stop of the day and shut it off. Restart car, tank guage reads 1 PIP. Make second stop and shut down car. restart car and guage reads 1 pip over halfway. MFD screen mileage counter didnt reset though. Drove car around for another 15+ miles, no change in PIP's. Drove to the gas station and filled it with 7.9 gallons. Fuel guage reset to full and MFD reset to 0. I'm confused!!! WTH just happened. Anyone else ever have this happen? Mike
Goofy "guess gauge" readings can be an early indicator of pending 12V battery failure. Is your 12V battery original? (4 years is the typical service life.) Have you run a battery check recently? http://priuschat.com/forums/newbie-...mpgs-dropping-test-battery-3.html#post1020264
