I am looking over at the Tire Rack website for rims. I enter the 2012 Pruis Three and it then list all the rims which should work on my car. I am looking at them and the prices seem very low. I am seeing sets of 4 for under $400 and nicer ones are about $600. Am I looking at these wrong? I mean is there something that I need to add to the cost of the rims? My son-in-law is a mechanic can install them for me. Also, can anyone give me a run down on the various rim manufacturers that are listed on the website? I assume some ar better than others. Also, if I buy these rims, is there away to place a Toyota logo in the center? Thanks for helping me spend my kids inheritance!
If your not going to use the TPMS sensors from your old rims, then you'll need to add about $400 for them. I'm looking at another set of rims as well and will buy the sensors as I want my old rims for winter tires.
are you planning on getting wider or larger diameter wheels? Tires will be the next most costly component of the setup unless you get the same size aftermarket rims. My 18"s were less than 600. The tires are likely to set you back as much as the rims (depending on what you get of course). Keep a sharp lookout for wheel weight and tire weight/LRR or not. When I was researching my rims...I did not find much data on reviews for the rims besides doing some searching on this site. You don't have to get extra Tire Pressure Monitor Sensors for new rims. Omitting them will light a small warning light on the dashboard display, and obviously disable the system. But that's all. We live with that warning light for about 5 months out of the year, with our separate snow tires: it's a non-issue, you don't notice it.
I'm assuming your looking at 15" rims only to swap onto your stock tires. Than yes, the price seems to be about right last I browsed their site. Generally speaking, rims & tires tend to go up as u go up in size so 15" will be at an attractive price. As for quality & manufacturer, I recall their was a lot. Narrow it down to the ones you like most & research it or ask us for our opinion. Tirerack is a very reputable company & all or most of their product should be of good quality.
But if you buy a second set of sensors you have to have them reprogrammed every time you swap wheels. The easiest way is to just live with the light for the time you have your winter tires on. I don't even notice the light all the way over to the side.
There is a company that sells TPMS sensors that can be reprogrammed so your car thinks you still have the originals. I was thinking that The Tire Rack sold them, but maybe not. I'll see if I can dig it up. Living with the light would be the easiest and cheapest though.
Try the search function....some other cat figured out how to trick the tpms system and you don't have to worry about any sensors. One little jumper wire solves that problem.
