So I am very excited! After spending countless hours stalking this website, building my own toyota online, watching Prius Youtube videos, reading reviews, and basically obsessing about getting a Prius, I finally just got one. (Well, I ordered one at the dealer and paid the deposit.) So I'll be driving my Camry for a few more days. :(

I'm getting the 2012 Prius 4 w/ the solar moon roof package. Going for dark grey exterior and the hark grey "softtex" fake leather interior. Pretty damn excited about the HUD (heads-up-display). Have any of you used it yet?

When they get my vehicle and time comes to pay the balance, of course they're going to try to sell me all the accessories, protective film, etc. I wasn't planning on getting anything but the floor mats. Do any of you think there is actually any accessory worth getting?

Happy to be a member of the forum instead of a mere stalker!

You might want to look in the Priuschat store to see if anything strikes your fancy, maybe a cargo net or side trim, whatever. It will also give you an idea of price.
No I don't work for the store, but I have bought from it.:D

Yeah, I've experienced the HUD while driving the PiP and Prius 5 with ATP during the unveil in San Francisco last September. It's not like all colorful but it is still a nice thing for those of us who love gimmicks, like myself. Also, having it show turn arrows for navigation directions and having the HSI bar in there right in front of you is convenient.

I have almost the exact same car, -2 years and the leather and hud! its awesome, take a look at the grill blocking techniques if you live in colder climes and def side body moldings before you get dinged! super easy to diy!

I definitely love a good gimmick too. What's the HSI bar you mentioned?

NO! to all the dealer add-on's as that's just money straight into their pocket. You can get an extended warranty (and usually WAY cheaper) right here on PC.

    Congrats!

Lots to learn you have. ;)

Like you I had a few days to kill between committing and actually picking up the car. What helped me immensely to pass the time was downloading and reading the HUGE owners manual.

    Sorry I don't know if there's a 2012 version about but here's a link to the 2010, see post #80:
    http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...2010-prius-owners-manual-available-pdf-8.html

Obviously there will be differences but many things will be the same.

Bottom screenshot, it maps your throttle when you are on the gas. With the HUD, that appears below (I think below) your speed. Kinda nice to have that right in front of you, especially on the plug in. Too much on either car and it makes the engine pop on and causes increased gas consumption. Yeah, a lot to learn, but it's fun learning! :)

Congrats and :welcome: (officially?) to PriusChat!!

I had a chance to try out the HUD on the PiP and it was a great feature. It was everything I expected a HUD to do and will give navigation instructions too. It helps on trips if you need a quiet cabin because the kids are sleeping so you silence the voice commands but you can still see the upcoming turns on the windshield.

Congrats on the impending purchase. Definitely let us all know how it goes once you actually take delivery and get a chance to play with your new baby.

I would really like to know what you think of the HUD. I wasn't expecting this when I put in my order (because Toyota was in the process of swapping the Parking Assist with the HUD). But now I am excited that I will be getting something "extra" (extra, as in I was never planning on using the Parking Assist and now will have something that I will actually use).

    Must have accessores are -

www.visormates.com the sun visors don't nearly cover the entire length of side window. These are simple and effective and are $15 a pair shipped.

I haven't sprung for all weather mats yet. I have the carpet mats layed, but have a super cheap, thin set of rubber mats over them.. Carpet mats are going to get dirty and worn, especially in the winter, but I don't like that.

Windshield shade made espeically for Prius is IMO a must. It's uncanny how few people actually put a windshield shade up. Then they run into work for 9 hours while the dash is pummeled from the blazing sun ... then they complain when the dash cracks. Uncanny.

Rear hatch tint is a very good thing to get on Prius for the Summer. the glass is very horizontal. I don't see a big need for rear windows, that's more for looks, but the hatch, it needs some tint.

I don't put any seat covers on the fabric seats. Then again, I eat absolutely nothing while driving. Until I figure out how to throw a set of car seats into a washing machine, I will continue to eat no thing while driving.

Thanks! I'll definitely let you know what I think of the HUD when I get it. I grew up using fighter jet simulators, and I'm pretty sure that I'm going to want to equip some sidewinder missiles or at lease a nose cannon on my prius to compliment the HUD. :D On a side note, do any of you have the clear protective film on the exterior of your Prius? My second choice for color was black (if they have trouble tracking down the grey I requested), and I'm aware that black is prone to getting dirty. The salesman said that if I get black I should definitely get the protective film and that it really helps keep the car looking clean. Is this true?

Well I don't know about keeping the car looking clean but it will help minimise the chance of rock chips and subsequent rusting (though where I am, I have plenty of chips but no rust probably because it's so dry here but I do regret not covering the front with protective film)

YES YES YES say NO to the dealer for add ons.
I got an extended warranty and a extended Toyota care pkg for hundreds less that the dealer wanted for the warranty alone and it was a shorter term! Get your warranties here they are a great desl.
And congrats on a very nice car!

I located and purchased the same Prius in Blizzard Pearl on Friday. The HD is nice but in reality it is so close to the normal speed odometer that you would not need to move you eyes to see both. It is a cute gimick. The upcomming turns are nice on it. I had a 2009 and the locking button by the door is gone now and replaced with a similar one on the door handle. Salesman didnot know how to lock doors without using the fob. The GPS is better from what I had read but still not real user friendly.

True but then you can have multiple screens on display. HSI on the HUD, Energy Monitor on the 5" MID and the Consumption Screen on the 7" split-screen LCD (with the other half the nav system).

Or alternatively, the Cons. Screen on the 5" and nav/radio split-screen on the 7".
