I am interest in the PiP, but before going to the dealer I like to know how much you are paying or how much discount if any..
A number of us got a $500 discount off of MSRP by buying from "PriusChat certified" dealers. A co-worker who is not on PriusChat managed to negotiate a $750 discount off of MSRP from his local dealer when he pre-ordered his PiP. It's anybody's guess as to what dealers will charge for non pre-ordered PIP's.
I'm paying MSRP. On a $40K car - almost $45K after tax, a $500 discount is slightly more than 1 %. Not a big deal in my book. Dianne says that the dealer mark-up on the Plug-In is less than on other cars. The dealer has to make a few bucks, and I don't be-grudge them that. So, I'm happy paying MSRP. I have run into situations in the past where cars were in big demand, that the cars were going for $1,000 or more over MSRP.
Plus being in Texas where they won't be available till 2013, you'll also have an additional transportation cost to get it back home.
Preordered with Dianne for $500 off MSRP. Dianne also throws in a $100 gas card or something like that. I recall reading that someone (on the east coast iirc) claimed to have gotten $1000 off of MSRP. That would be the most that I heard of/read.
The margin of profit on these vehicles is less than your average Prius. Something to keep in mind when negotiating.
I wouldn't expect any discount for the PHEVs on regular allocation. Now that the pricing sheets are revealed, it's UGLY. I have shared this info with a few thru email but now there's pretty much only about 2% markup in this car between my cost and MSRP. I don't know what happened between their original pricing sheets and now, maybe the yen vs dollar issue, but anyone who managed a discount off the MSRP for the pre-order is very fortunate.
I am hearing over MSRP for PIP in California, if you can find one- most dealers just taking names/ deposits as they will not see any non-pre-order PIPS for awhile. Several dealers in my OC area- that is what they are saying...
