I have traded several of my vehicles in, but this last time, due to a private loan (Thanks Mom ), I was able to buy my Prius outright. I had tried to sell my 97 F-150 4x4 Triton 5.4L Club cab - long bed (loaded) on Ebay, but the best bid was $4500, WAY below what I would let it go for. So I still have my F-150 It only has 105k on it and is in great shape. My son is using it now till he gets a tranny in his 89 Mustang!! <_< I am glad I have it or he would have to walk!! When the snows come, I will park the Prius and take the truck. I will look into snow tires for the Prius next year..
The only reason I trade in a vehicle through the dealer when buying a new car is because my old vehicle has a major problem (usually engine or transmission), and I don't want a private party coming back to my house and asking for their money back. If the old car is still in decent shape, then I always prefer to sell privately which always results in more money than a dealer will offer in trade.
Hey guys, I traded in a 2002 Mini Cooper for my Prius. I tried selling the Mini privately but was unable to in the one month time we gave ourselves before the Prius arrived. Jim
My previous car was in such poor shape that I could not have sold it privately without fear of my home being torched. I topped up the dripping radiator and drove it to the dealer. They test drove it, thought the body looked nice, and gave me a fair price. I was more than happy just to be rid of it.
