Hello crew, it has been awhile since I last posted aside from perusing around on different topics. Well my wife and I just picked out a 2011 Prius III and have to say we love it. We are in the process of the deal and I was wondering if there were any recommendations on breaking in the engine. I remember reading an article once on here but cannot find it. I would presume it says this in the manual, but I wanted to get an idea as we do not have the car or manual yet... We also have a 45 minute ride home, most of which is highway driving. This is a great forum and I look forward to chatting and meeting some of you in the days ahead.
For the ride home I would suggest that you don't use the Cruise control, try to vary your speed and take it easy, my guess is that after the first 1000 miles you just drive it normally.
And don't hit the brakes hard for the first 500m if you can help it. Welcome aboard and enjoy the ride.
all the best with your new prius! just drive it gently for awhile, nothing special. good advice above.:welcome:
Using the cruise if you want is fine. With a CVT the engine speed will vary all by itself every time you experience ANY change in elevation or load. Don't worry about it ... just drive it gently and don't hammer the brakes for a few hundred miles. REV
I see discussion off and on about the extended warranty, is that really something to consider? The dealer used the traditional "scare tactic" and showed JD Power replacement costs and while I abstained, it did make me think twice! I did send off an email to Troy to see what a warranty through him will cost. Thoughts/suggestions?
^ of course they did... and yet out of the other side of the mouth they will say how reliable Toyota is. You can pick up extended warranties just before the 36K/3years is up like the one sold on this site.
You bet cha! Exactly how I would expect it to play out. From what I am seeing it is a gamble like any other warranty. I do not seem to find many "large repairs" being mentioned on the forum. While they exist I think I may roll the dice, but I will wait to see. I guess it is all the electric components/technology that makes me a little nervous.
