I wish the Prius had....................

Greater EV range.

I was considering a PIP until I found out the EV range was so limited. 15 miles was a major disappointment. So I'll upgrade my 2004 Gen II to a 2012 Gen III and drive that around until the plug-in hybrid range matures to 50 miles or so. That would get me to and back from work on a single charge. And if the next 10 years brings a 500 mile range on an all electric vehicle then I'll consider moving to all electric. Until then its going to be a hybrid vehicle, and my experience with the Prius will keep me in that camp for a while to come.

 

I think that what a lot of people are looking for in a Prius, or any car for that matter, is the cusomizeable experience, to allow the user to make it/tweak it to be uniquely theirs. What's wrong with giving users access to settings that are non-safety/non operational related? Lots of gadgets are good too.

A few (some repeated) things on my wish list...
More user-Friendy options that could be added as wanted/needed by user just by buying and plugging in a module:

- Optional GPS / Nav module (plug my nuvi in for navi) or have choice of garmin/tom tom etc...
- optional backup cam modlue
- optional Bluetooth module
- Optional video input (enabled when not in motion)
- Connections (including industry standard comms) for other than factory Stereo
- optional second battery for move EV time (maybe even high-capacity battery)
- optional on-board charger for traction battery to do the few miles to work and back without using gas (plug in while @ work)
- Easy access to on-board settings like auto-lock delay etc.
- all LED lighting (other than headlights)

not too many of these things (and many others mentioned in this thread) would actually cost the manufacture much if anything to incorporate. Unfortunately its the loss of revenue associated with many of them that will mean they will likely never happen. Not to mention the adaptation of "open standards" when creating these options will never likely happen either, that would just open the door for third-party manufacturers to go wild.

I wish it had a small cubby hole left of the steering wheel (for US models). I think some countries have this.

I just need room for change.

 

I like the changes they are making on the Prius C to provide more driver feedback. I hope in the future they are able to integrate many of the things the Scan gauge does right into the prius display so it can be configured by the user to monitor the car

7. Basic 100k warranty, like Hyundai.

 

100K mile warranty like Hyundai would go a long way for marketing

 

Why would Toyota want to do anything more for marketing the most popular hybrid in America? It is usually the competition that leads with those types of programs as a means to take market share from the leader. Given the dependability of the model line I would rather they keep adding features without a premium price point.

My 3 year basic warranty is long gone and (hoping I don't jinx myself here) I haven't had the need for any covered work over the 5 years since. Granted, I have low miles, which would still be the case for me even with an extra two years on the warranty.

 

1. MFD should show which door has been left open rather than any door could be open . What the hell do they have the mfd for if it hardly shows information ?
2. The Moonroof should open as shown on toyota.com in "Vehicle Tour", just about an inch above the roof instead of the angle it opens in real life !

4. Windshieldwiper liquid indicator and messeage on mfd
5. Engine oil level indicator and messeage on mfd
6. A possibility to turn off the backup-beep without having to go to the dealer .

tactile feel on the dashboard controls for settings while driving at night. Much like a computer keyboard. I want to know that i hit the eco control or power control by feeling it first. Heating, ac and vent should have something on them too. they all are flat . How about some sound deadening in the doors so it is quieter. my 96 camry was quiet. Also drl should have been standard on my 2011.

 

Relocate the light sensor for the Homelink mirror to the rear spoiler. The spoiler really does spoil the performance of the Homelink mirror by effectively blocking incoming headlight beams from behind.

 

I think the spoiler blocking headlights from behind is going to be something that will take me a long time to get used to, if ever. Headlights blinking in and out from behind the spoiler is distracting.

Power seat should have a memory setting, two would be better.

All SKS functions should be configurable in the MFD and not via the hokey pokey. More stuff should be configurable via the MFD.

Folded back seats should be flatter.

Factory tint. I prefer having things done by the manufacturer and not have to hassle with aftermarket vendors however well recommended they may be.

I like my Prius but I do miss my Blazer. She was built 12 years ago and had a bunch of features that oddly lacking in a new car.

 

Don't know if there is, but Id like to be able to route some of the power caught by the solar panel to something other than the cabin fan.

 

I wish it had an EV mode that would stay on. There are too many conditions for EV mode in the Prius.

 

If we are just wishing, and it does not need to be practical, I want 4 wheel steering and headlights so my Prius is always going straight into/away from the wind.

I would get better mileage, and freak out the other drivers!

 

I wish the Prius nav system was Internet capable where you could download Google maps, Mapquest, or the one I like best-Waze. I use Waze with my Galaxy Note4 instead of the hard wired one in our 2010 (level 4).

There is no reason to have a propriatary nav system that ages as soon as you drive away.
