(note, this is a 2008 Prius) Here is the situation - My passenger side headline has a tendency to slowly dim after the lights have been turned on. Eventually it turns off. At that point if I turn off and on the headlights it comes back on and will do the same thing over again. I would estimate that it takes a couple of minutes for it to completely "discharge". I bought new lights and tried to install them myself. Despite instructions in the owner's manually and videos online, I was not able to do it successfully. Now its at the dealership and I was told it would require at least $220 in labor. Hopefully it just needs a new bulb, otherwise it could be a lot more. So, questions: 1. Has anyone come across this before? 2. Am I getting ripped off by the dealership? I will be picking it up later today and i can update this thread with the results.
I assume they are HIDs and not halogen headlights. If HIDs, are you aware of this Toyota Prius HID Headlight Class Action Settlement - Consumer Class Action Attorneys - Girard Gibbs LLP
Hey firepa63, thanks for pointing this out. Here is an update on my story. First I was told the car would need a new bulb (HID). With labor it would come to over $500 to get both bulbs (I figured I should replace both at the same time), however the woman I was working with said she would check with her manager on Monday to see if the bulb was covered by warrantee or extended warantee. This was irritating because: 1) i'd have to get the car via public transit and bring it back during the week, taking public again transit to then get home and once again when it was ready to be picked up. 2) $500 is absurd. When I returned to the dealership, she told me that they were able to get the part, fix it and would not charge me anything (for the parts OR labor). She said she didn't want to make be come back and "just wanted to take care of me". I was surprised and happy. Of course she didn't mention anything about the class action suit. I left the dealership thinking I saved myself $500, but maybe they were just covering their asses?
