Is Prius actually a "gay" car?

I think the point is that we are making progress, and that it is a process, not a destination. Many in my state oppose Obama simply for skin color, but imagine if he had been elected in the 50s or 60s! Women are sill not paid/promoted like men but the gap is closing, Gays are only allowed to by Smart cars, but Prius ownership will come soon!

 

I expect that they will continue to have gay pride parades and fairs (and I will support such parades and fairs) as long as mainstream America remains bigoted and discriminatory against gays. As long as people stand up in PTA meetings and demand that gays be excluded from teaching. As long as discrimination against gays remains legal and accepted in housing. As long as so-called Christian preachers stand up in the pulpit and declare that homosexuality is any more of a sin than homosexuality or that god does not like same-sex relationships. As long as rednecks beat up children and adults for being or seeming to be gay. As long as there is bigotry and hatred, there is a need for gay pride parades and fairs, to show frightened and closeted gay young people that there IS a place for them in society, and that there ARE places where they can be accepted as who they are. They may learn that the people who hate them are the perverts. And when straight people like me support such parades and fairs, those young people, who have been bullied and beaten up and teased all their lives may see that not all straight people are bigoted assholes.

Gay marriage is an important step, but it is not the end of the road. The gay pride parades and fairs can end when straight society sees gay people as being no more different from themselves than people with different eye color. And we are not there as long as some people think that two men kissing in public is any different than a man and a woman kissing in public.

When you state on a public forum that two men should not kiss in public, you demonstrate that gay pride marches and fairs are still very much needed.

 

That's the problem for me, makes me squeamish and turn away.

 

True there is a lot more discrimination against LGBT's than just marriage.

 

Far as I can tell, mine's straight! Not been "rear-ended" yet.

FWIW, I like my "junior high" behavior...keeps me young and with all the problems I seem to have following me, I like keeping as young as possible

and btw...back to the topic at hand....any Prius getting less than 40mpg is considered "gay" in my book

 

In the land of the Prius, we do celebrate sexuality in a big way.

Just trying to help. I'm just thinking that if the G&L community continues along the trajectory that they're on, and based on my observations of how language in public had changed when referring to people of color, you may have to change some of your metaphors.
I suspect that someday the mods will be issuing the same stern citations for G&L pejoratives (real or imagined) that they would certainly issue if you were to use language that used to be more in vogue (by some) when I was in Junior High.
Let's face it.
Some ideologues, on both sides, do not have a fully developed sense of humor! This is why both the religious right and the liberal left respond to things that they don't like with the same weapon: Censorship.

However (comma!!!!) I'm certainly nobody's idea of a morality enforcement officer, and I despise "false outrage" more than most other people do.
If you think that a sub-40MPG Prius is "gay", then have at it.

I just think that it's either poorly maintained, driven in a cold climate, or being wantonly abused (nothing handles like a rental car! )

It's been awhile since I've mentioned my Energy Policy - done it several times.

I would not raise gas taxes or EPA standards.

Instead I'd mandate every SUV, pickup truck or other car that gets less than 25 miles to the gallon be painted pink with lacy upholstery.

Based on countless threads like this - I'd bet SUVs would be extinct in two years.

Maybe somebody would have to if they were subjected to it enough. I'm not, so it's a moot point.

I was going to make a smutty joke about my Prius' recent accident, but I won't.

On a note related to the original topic...A couple of months ago I had to give a ride to an acquaintance, and had to listen to his rendition of the South Park episode making fun of Prius drivers. Fortunately I have a good sense of humor, but still--you don't bite the hand that's giving you a ride.

 

In my job as a cabbie you meet ALL sorts of people. I have customers of all types, race, sexual orientation etc and I don't mind one jot whether someone is gay or black or whatever. I like my customers.

But a jerk is a jerk whatever colour or sexual orientation. They can be a straight jerk, a rich one or a black gay one. I don't like jerks.

People are people and maybe if we all chatted a bit more we'd realise that. And I can't believe that someone can be so insecure that they worry what people think of them by the car they drive!?! I drive my girlfriends Toyota IQ and don't care what people think.

Perhaps the 19 year old males worrying about getting a Prius should note that a lot of young ladies of your age like the Prius and what it stands for. They might also like you being independent minded enough to get one.

Whelp, the guy above seems like he enjoys reactions from other people and is pretty tuned into them. It gives him something to refute.

 

I used to think of it more as a girly car, but I don't mind driving it compared to the "clown" car 3 banger Geo that my wife refused to be seen in. I loved the Geo due to its 60 mpg, but dang...I love the Prius more...especially after the first 62.1 mpg trip that I had it on...bettering the Geo without trying all that hard.

I am not gay and have nothing against those that are. I DO think gay unions should be allowed, but not referred to as a marriage, even though I kind of think it is...I just like that term used.
