My owners manual says no trailer hitch should be installed. I want to attach a hitch to my Prius V to be used for a bike rack only. Do any of you owners have bike racks if so what model? Any hitches? Dayrunner
It shouldn't be a big deal. I saw the same warning 11 years ago. But like you, only wanted it for carrying bikes. Back then, there wasn't a hitch available though. Hello, I went through the same deliberations you did regarding the "no hitch" statement in the owner's manual. I ended up installing the Drawtite 1-1/4 inch hitch onto the back of my Prius. I have no intention of carrying anything except for my bike rack. Good luck.
Timing is everything. I bought a new 2011 Prius two days ago and ordered a Curt hitch tonight. Looks to be an easy install. I'll only be using it for a bike rack also.
The only way that it can affect the warranty is if they can trace the hitch or its use directly to a failure. And then the change is only for the impacted items. They won't be refusing to replace a failed windshield wiper motor because there's a hitch in place.
