I was just wondering if anyone has any current opinions on the best value in a hitch for use with a bike rack? I am tired of using my Jeep when I need to transport my bikes (14 MPG is hard on the wallet). Thanks.
When you start a new topic it shows other similar topics. When I typed in bike rack this came up. This is only a few. I have the Saris T-Bones 2-Bike and could be more pleased with it. www.saris.com/index.php?page=shop.p...d=61&option=com_virtuemart&vmcchk=1&Itemid=57
My hitch is a Curt. Very easy install. Trailer Hitches, Heavy Duty Hitch, & Towing Accessories Made in America by CURT Manufacturing.
All hitches cost pretty much the same - the "Quality s" hitch is 2" and Class III - hence more strong - and there's lots you can plug in (without an adapter)...
I too am interested in reviews for hitches. I've seen Curt, Draw-Tite, and Hidden Hitch. Any recommendations from those that have installed any of these hitches? I only want 1 1/4" Class I as whatever rack I get will then fit hubby's hitch as well.
Don't have it on my prius but I do have the Curt brand on my Lexus & think it is a good quality tow hitch. I bought it from Amazon.com at a low price & recall they had ones for prius on sale too. Here's a link from a recent thread: Just received Curt hitch and Swagman XTC bike rack
This past Sunday it was finally sunny in Oregon and I went out and installed a curt trailer hitch. It took me 20 minutes to install it in my driveway. I then went out. And tested it and it works great. Got it of amazon for around $100. I did my research for a while now and came to the decision the majority of hitches for Prius are type 1, even quality s type III, if you look at the specs it is same as all other type I. Now not saying that the hitch might not be better but for what I need the hitch for the curt was the cheapest including free shipping.
My two cents would be the Quality S. Adapters are cheap, and no other hitch I'm aware of lets you remove most of the heavy hitch with 4 simple bolts. The two brackets are barely noticeable and let me do most of my driving without the hitch and the associated weight and aero drag. Hubby can mount the hitch for bike use in a couple of minutes with a pair of box wrenches. Don't forget the custom-fit wiring harness for the Prius. On-line sources offer them for about $60 and it's a no-tool "plug and play" installation (except for one hot wire to the battery to power the control module).
