Hey guys, I recently picked up 2012 III and noticed the DRL are now where the fog lights use to be on the 2011's. When you turn on the main headlights the DRL turn off. So now I was wondering how do the fog lights work on the factory equipped 2012s and is their maybe a mod that we can do to set the DRL on with the headlights?
You mean the Five with integrated fog lights? Someone should chime in and tell us how that works (once the 2012 Fives hit the street).
I was wondering the same thing... I looked briefly at the manual, there is probably some switch we are missing.... ill toy with it later.
like most cars w/ drl, they do turn off when the headlights are on. Owning many cars with them (97 Camaro, 01 Saturn SL2, 07 Civic, 04/06 Z06), they all turn off. DRL is suppose to make you more visible but you won't need them with the headlights on. Of course, I always wonder why they didn't put the DRL's until 12's.
Well I spent about 2 minutes looking at the different options last night. It appears you can have DRL off, DRL on, lights on, and lights off. I didn't see an option for fog lights and lights on. But since the "fog" likes are the "DRL" right? I guess it's one or the other. Maybe there is some trick we are missing.
DRLs should be off when the headlamps are on. That's the way they are designed, and presumably required by law in some areas. Tom
I know that is true, but since the 2012 DRL are in the same exact spot as 2011 fog lights, I thought their might be a mod we can do to use our 2012 DRL as fog lights with the headlights.
Looks like you'll have to do an auxiliary install that mounts on the front lower grill area. This will sound like it's not very DIY friendly.
FYI I went to the parts dept and asked them bout the factory fog lights and they said that Toyota doesn't make a kit for them so one has to buy the parts seperatly and everything would be about $600 not including labor, ouch!
Saw a 2012 with foglights at my local dealership. The foglights are located where the gen ll foglight location is. The DRL's are just plain DRL's without a fog light function.
Thanks for posting this pic in particular. If this one is equipped with ATP then that's what I hope to be driving soon.:thumb:
Just wondering if anyone else is NOT impressed with the light output of the 2012 FOG LIGHTS ??? IM NOT !!!! Has anyone changed these out with High Output LEDS ??? If so, post some pics please... and report on the difference.. thanks
